I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

The choice between the Jura ENA Micro 90 vs E6 is a tough one. Because on one side, you have a machine that comes with a bypass doser for pre-ground coffee and on the other, you have a faster, more superior milk frother. So the decision to choose between both is entirely in your hands.

Having said that, the Jura E6 wins the debate with very many strong points in its favor. It allows beginners and coffee experts to make espresso quickly. Just barring the latte macchiato that the ENA Micro 90 lets you make, along with cappuccino which the Jura E6 offers.

For the rest of it, the Thermoblock heating, 15 bar pump, and pulse extraction – the Jura ENA Micro 90 and E6 are user-friendly home coffee makers for espresso lovers.

Jura ENA Micro 90 vs E6: Differences

The Jura E6 wins 4 – 2 because it features double-shot brewing, a faster Fine Foam Frother, and maintenance-free housing. The Jura ENA Micro 90 is good for its compact size, programmable coffee features, and pre-ground coffee use.

1. Espresso Taste

The Winner: It’s A Tie!

Coffee Drinks

The Jura ENA Micro 90 has a more tempting coffee menu than the Jura E6. Where the Jura E6 offers espresso, coffee, and the classic cappuccino as their pre-programmed coffee menu, the ENA Micro 90 offers the additional latte macchiato along with espresso, coffee, and cappuccino.

Now, as I’m sure you’re already thinking, how does the ENA Micro 90 offer a latte macchiato when the E6 features the same number of drinks as the other one? In fact, the E6 has 1 more drink on its menu than the ENA Micro 90.

That is because the ENA Micro 90 does not support a double shot brewing cycle. And the Jura E6 does.

So here you have a single and double shot/serving of espresso and coffee that the Jura E6 offers in its menu. The ENA Micro 90 offers only a single serving of espresso and coffee.

For the rest of it, including the 15 bar pump, P.E.P., and Thermoblock, the flavor of espresso in both Jura ENA Micro 90 vs E6 is the same: Strong, smooth, and aromatic.

Decaf Coffee

On top of its specialty coffee drink (the latte macchiato), you can also add decaf (or pre-ground) coffee in the ENA Micro 90. It brews espresso from both coffee beans that it grinds on its own and from packaged pre-ground coffee that you can put inside the by-pass doser.

The Jura E6 only works with coffee beans that it grinds using the Aroma G3 grinder. This is a steel burr grinder with sharp blades and quick grinding performance.

2. Dose Control

The Winner: Jura E6

Jura E6 Dose Control

Shot Size

This refers to the shot size of the ground coffee that goes into every espresso shot.

The Jura E6’s standard is 5 to 16 grams of freshly ground coffee. With Pulse Extraction, this yields a delicious espresso taste. The Jura ENA Micro 90’s standard is between 6 to 10 grams.

It’s important to keep in mind that the Jura E6 offers single and double espresso shots in a single brewing cycle. It has dual coffee spouts for that very purpose. So the dosage amount is expected to be high as it doubles in volume.

The Jura ENA Micro 90’s dose is low because it only supports a single serving. While limited, this is perfect for a solo espresso drinker with less time put to brewing. But if you’re looking for back to back espresso brewing, the ENA Micro 90 will take more time than the E6.

Programmability

While the coffee strength and temperature programmability of the Jura ENA Micro 90 and E6 are much the same, the difference lies in the hot water settings.

The Jura E6 lets you adjust the temperature of the hot water in 3 levels. The Jura ENA Micro 90 comes with no such additional feature.

It does let you program the strength of coffee in 10 levels and the brewing temperature in 2 levels. The E6 features 2 temperature levels and 8 coffee strength settings.

3. Milk System

The Winner: Jura E6

Jura E6 MIlk System
Jura E6 MIlk System

Here’s the thing. The standards for frothing milk of the Jura ENA Micro 90 and E6 are different. For starters, the Jura E6 includes the superior Fine Foam Frother with automatic cleaning modes. This means the Jura E6 does clean all the internal parts of the frothing device to prevent clogging or build-up.

The Fine Foam Frother, as the name itself suggests, also features a better-equipped milk frothing system that produces really smooth and creamy milk foam. So for the cappuccino milk, you can expect barista-grade results without the need for a steam wand.

Moving on, the ENA Micro 90 comes with an automatic siphon milk frother, not Fine Foam. So it is not as effective as the Jura E6. And it also demands more cleaning and rinsing on a daily basis. So you have to rinse the nozzle with hot water after you use the frother every day. Or else it will leave some milk stains behind, altering the flavor of your next cup.

The milk results on the ENA Micro 90 and E6 are much the same but the former demands more taking care of which can be annoying for some people.

4. Cleaning & Maintenance

The Winner: Jura E6

The Jura E6 features more than one integrated cleaning cycle that keep the internal parts of the espresso maker clean and clog-free. It also features an auto shut-off timer with effective cleaning solutions that even a beginner should be able to use easily and quickly.

The Jura ENA Micro 90, conversely, has this automatic cleaning cycle that rinses the internal tubes as soon as you turn the machine off. This is good but you have to turn the machine off. It does not have an auto shut off timer like the Jura E6.

Having said that, both the Jura E6 and ENA Micro 90 have the CLEARYL water filter, low-energy mode, and a hot water dispenser that keeps the espresso maker clean and mess-free.

5. Utilities

The Winner: Jura ENA Micro 90

Size

The Jura ENA Micro 90 has different capacities than the Jura E6. For example, where the ENA 90 features a 1L water tank and 4.4-ounce bean hopper. The Jura E6 features a 1.8L water tank and a 9.8-ounce bean hopper.

So it’s obvious that the Jura E6 is slightly bigger than the ENA Micro 90. But this also means that you have to refill the former machine fewer times than the latter. Making the ENA Micro 90 a little more high maintenance. But if you have a compact and portable espresso maker that is perfectly sized for small kitchens.

The coffee grounds container is also different – 10 vs 16 pucks. Further contributing to the Jura ENA Micro 90’s lightweight and compact design.

The Jura ENA Micro 90 measures 9.1 x 12.7 x 17.5 inches. And the Jura E6 measures 11 x 13.8 x 17.3 inches. The difference in their weight, however, is 1 lb as the former weighs 20.7 lbs and the latter weighs 21.6 lbs

Height Adjustable Spout

You can also slide under slightly larger mugs or probably even a travel mug under the Jura ENA Micro 90. It has a taller coffee spout adjustment from 2.2 inches to 5.4 inches. The Jura E6’s is from 2.5 inches to 4.5 inches. So it is more compact than the ENA Micro 90.

Jura ENA Micro 90 vs E6: Similarities

The key features between the Jura ENA Micro 90 and the E6 are quite the same. They both feature a 15 bar pump system for extracting rich espresso without it tasting weak or watery.

The Thermoblock heating system ensures smooth and efficient operation. Temperature control is easy and quick to access using both Jura machines. You can program each cup from high to low temperatures. This refers to the brewing temperature of the espresso machines, not for milk.

You can quickly also select the dose strength of each serving from high/low. The Jura ENA Micro 90 and E6 feature 10 and 8 coffee strength adjustments respectively. And lastly, the programmability also extends to adjusting the volume of espresso quickly and effectively.

The Jura ENA Micro 90 and E6 deliver profoundly with their one-touch brewing features and sturdy and lightweight design. You can brew from espresso to coffee to cappuccino using their intuitive and responsive interface in seconds, rather than take minutes for a single cup!

Both machines are also equipped with water filters to make sure the water does not ruin the taste of espresso due to mineral build-up or hard water.
