After testing to see which between Jura S8 vs We8 is the better espresso machine, I have decided on the ultimate winner: Jura S8.
Jura S8 is a highly stable machine, and after 2 months of brewing and cleaning, it always delivers smooth and full-bodied espresso and froths microfoam that any cup of cappuccino needs. The grinder also runs smoothly with minimum noise. I recommend this machine for singles or couples.
The runner-up Jura We8 is a good pick if you want to share espresso machines with 2-3 more people. The flavor leans to the stronger side with a bitter tinge, which strong-coffee lovers will enjoy. But the milk system is not very stable, among other small details. I will explain further below.

Jura S8 vs We8: Differences
Jura S8 wins 3-1 against We8. The former is more stable, and I’m very impressed by its milk system. If you like milk-based recipes, you can’t skip Jura S8.
Coffee Flavor: Jura S8
+Grinder
Jura S8 and We8 use the same Aroma G3 grinders, which offers six settings to grind coffee beans from fine to coarse. The grinders are pretty smooth, and so far, I haven’t experienced any jam or malfunction.
In terms of noise, I don’t have anything to complain about. Both machines don’t produce much noise in the grinding step. But, Jura S8 definitely is more quiet compared to Jura We8. If you have children at home, you will be surprised at how quiet Jura S8 is. Espresso makers always make noise when they grind coffee beans, but S8 keeps it minimal.
+Dosing + tamping
Both models use the same 5 to 16 grams dose for their beverages recipes, and users can adjust the coffee strength according to their preference. But, I notice a big difference between the flavor that Jura S8 and We8 can deliver.
Jura S8’s coffees tend to be mellow, smooth, nutty, and full-bodied. It also can produce thick layers of crema, which I adore. In general, this espresso maker’s specialty is smooth coffee. Remember that I say smooth, not weak.
Jura We8 tends to make more robust coffees with a tinge of bitterness. So this machine’s forte is stronger coffees and stronger espressos.
+Heating system
Jura S8 and We8 use the same 1 Thermoblock heating system. And here is my experience on how these espresso makers work with their Thermoblocks:
Jura S8 heats up faster but still takes around 10 minutes to reach the ideal coffee temperature, which is about 180F to 190F. Not too cool that you have to drink quickly, not too hot that it will leave you with a third-degree burn.
Jura We8 has a hard time reaching high brewing temperature, and I seldom get coffees hotter than 170F. I tried starting the machine up 20-25 minutes prior to actual brewing time, and the highest temp was still around 170-175F.
Utilities: Tie
Jura We8 boasts of a 101oz water tank that assures less frequent refills, and it can satisfy an entire family or a shared apartment. Jura S8, on the other hand, uses a smaller tank that can hold up to 63.6 oz of water, which is very ideal for singles and couples.
But, Jura S8 has more beverage options which are 15 while Jura We8 offers 12 only. It has caffè latte and macchiato, and it can froth a separate cup of milk foam.
Milk system: Jura S8
Not wanting to sound extreme, but Jura S8 has one of the best milk systems that I have experienced in non-commercial machines. In fact, with its dry and airy milk foam texture, this model can go into business. You can expect it to froth dry foam that is a necessity for a good cup of cappuccino or macchiato.
Cleaning & Maintain: Tie
What I like about the cleaning part of these machines is that they have auto-purge function which rinses the dispensers with hot water thoroughly when they turn on or shut off. This makes sure that there is no leftover coffee or milk in the brew path.
To clean the milk system thoroughly, users need to use a special cleaning liquid sold independently by Jura. If you drink coffee frequently, it will cost you extra 30 bucks each month for cleaning solutions. But it’s still a good deal in comparison to going to Starbucks daily for coffees, which is much more expensive.

Auto-purge of dispenser
As we have mentioned, these models purge the dispenser automatically when they turn on or shut off to keep the brew path clean. Please make sure that you lower the dispenser as close to the drip tray as possible to avoid spilling. Or if you can place a cup under it, it will catch the dirty water more efficiently.
Removable side water tank
With a removable side water tank, users can refill it without breaking a sweat. Side water tank doesn’t require users to move the entire machine around to get access to it. So this is very convenient if you hate hectic refilling or have a small kitchen stand.
