There’s truly nothing quite like the convenience of having a cup of coffee ready in a jiffy, especially during those hectic mornings when you’re rushing to get ready for work. That’s where the Breville Nespresso Vertuo and Vertuo Next machines shine brightly, as they heat up remarkably quickly.
The Vertuo impressively takes just 15 seconds to heat up, while the Vertuo Next requires 30 seconds. In the grand scheme of things, both of these heating times are incredibly brief; do you agree?

Both the Breville Nespresso Vertuo and Vertuo Next machines are indeed compact in size. However, when it comes to a direct comparison, the Vertuo Next takes the lead in terms of compactness, measuring a mere 5.6 inches in width, while the Vertuo machine is slightly wider at 8.3 inches. This disparity in dimensions can be attributed to the differing positions of the water tanks in the two machines.
In terms of material and build quality, both machines stand out with their sturdy and well-crafted construction. Despite their affordable price point, they certainly don’t compromise on build quality. These machines blend a combination of metal and plastic components in their construction.
However, I particularly appreciate the material used in the Vertuo Next, as it consists of 54% recycled plastic. It’s admirable to see the brand’s commitment to environmental responsibility in this updated version.

While there is a difference in capacity, it’s not significant enough to definitively declare one as more convenient than the other.

I feel that using the app takes convenience to a whole new level because now, just by holding a smartphone in my hand, I can monitor many factors of this machine. It’s a breeze to check essential information like the capsule container’s status, ensuring it’s not full, and keeping an eye on the water tank to see if it needs refilling, among other things.

Both the Vertuo and Vertuo Next brew a variety of pod sizes, offering a versatile selection for coffee enthusiasts (1.35 oz Espresso, 2.7 oz Double Espresso, 5 oz. Gran Lungo, 8 oz Coffee).
There’s 1 pod size exclusive to the Vertuo Next – the 18-ounce pour-over carafe pods. This generous cup size allows you to brew enough coffee for both you and your spouse in a single go, making those busy mornings a bit more convenient.

In my opinion, the Breville Nespresso Vertuo Next represents an impressive upgrade from the original Vertuo, and it comes at a more budget-friendly price point.
I would wholeheartedly recommend the Vertuo Next model. Not only does it boast a sleeker and more compact design, offering a variety of finishes to suit your style, but it also demonstrates a stronger commitment to environmental sustainability.
Furthermore, its ability to brew a multi-cup carafe and its Bluetooth capabilities are also big pluses. The minor trade-offs, such as a slightly smaller water tank capacity (3 oz less than the Vertuo) and a used capsule container that holds 3 fewer capsules, are negligible, and I don’t even consider it a deal-breaker.

These coffee makers incorporate advanced capsule recognition technology, which comes with both pros and cons.
On the positive side, this technology eliminates the need for manual adjustments when making your preferred drink. The machine reads the barcodes on each coffee capsule, automatically configuring all the critical factors like brewing temperature, rotational speed, and flow rate to deliver a consistently excellent cup.
However, this system’s reliance on barcodes may restrict your options when it comes to the coffee capsules you can use.
Centrifusion Technology
The Vertuo and Vertuo Next designs don’t utilize a pump for extraction like other machines. Instead, they use a technology called Centrifusion.
Centrifusion operates by swiftly spinning the coffee capsule and water at an impressive 7,000 RPM to ensure a thorough and uniform mixture. This cutting-edge technology results in an exceptionally thick layer of crema, which I found to be quite distinct from what you typically have.
Lid Functionality
In the case of both the Vertuo and Vertuo Next, you’ll need to manually handle the lid, involving a bit of effort and potential hand strain as you twist a lever to secure or release it.
If you find this aspect a bit cumbersome, an alternative worth considering is the Vertuo Plus. This model comes equipped with a motorized lid that effortlessly opens and closes with a simple push on the lever, eliminating the need for manual twisting and making the coffee-making process more hassle-free.
