Delonghi Dedica Deluxe vs Breville Bambino Plus: Similarities

Both they have a compact design
Both have a compact design

The most noticeable similarity between these two machines is the compact design and some basic functions.

Despite these being mid-range espresso machines, I was really surprised and impressed with their looks. Unlike other smaller machines, these two are made of stainless steel to give them a sleek and professional look. From metal steam wands to quality portafilters, these machines look like premium machines.

With their compact design, they are not only perfect for your kitchen space but also make them light in weight.

The simple, compact design means there aren’t too many buttons on the interface. But you still can choose between a single or double shot of espresso at the press of a button.

Delonghi Dedica Deluxe vs Breville Bambino Plus: Differences

Breville Bambino Plus wins 4 – 1 against Delonghi Dedica Deluxe dues to its ability to froth better milk by better steam wand, larger water tank capacity, easier of cleaning, faster heat-up time

Water Tank Capacity

The Winner: Breville Bambino Plus

Breville Bambino Plus has a large water tank
Breville Bambino Plus has a large water tank

With the Dedica Deluxe, the water tank capacity is 35 ounces. It’s not a big water tank but it fits the compact size of the machine.

With the Dedica Deluxe, the water tank capacity is 35 ounces. It’s not a big water tank but it fits the compact size of the machine.

The Bambino water tank is actually much larger. It’s 64 oz. It is almost double the size of the Delonghi’s, so we will get more uses out of this before having to refill.

Milk Frothing

The Winner: Breville Bambino Plus

Delonghi Dedica Duluxe steams milk using a Panarello steam wand. You can adjust the frother so it either foams or heats milk. I have used it and found that it is pretty hard to get the right texture or microfoam. The bubbles in Delonghi are quite large compared to in Breville. This wouldn’t be ideal for latte art.

I rate the steam wand of Breville Bambino Plus much better than the Delonghi machine. What I really love about this machine is the steam wand has both automatic and manual modes.

When you want to have automatics milk steaming, you can simply choose what you want in terms of temperature or texture of the milk by pressing the button, and let the machine do the rest. Compared to the Delonghi, the milk texture of Bambino is much better. It’s pretty close to true microfoam like you’d be getting off of any traditional steam wand. And the fact that it is automatic and on such a compact little machine is pretty great.

There is something a little bit special about the Bambino steam wand that i really like is there is a temperature sensor. It can actually integrate air and automatically steam and stop steaming. In my opinion, this feature is worth the price difference between the two machines.

Heat-up Time

The Winner: Breville Bambino Plus

While the Dedica Deluxe takes 35 to 40 seconds to warm up, the Breville Bambino Plus takes just 3 seconds.

A ThermoJet heating system is equipped with the Breville Bambino Plus, allowing it to reach the desired extraction temperature in just a few seconds. I’ve found that faster heat-up time is highly appreciated by most users.

Ease of Cleaning

The Winner: Breville Bambino Plus

The drip trays of both machines are removable, making clean-up easy.

But in the term of cleaning wise, Bambino wins again. But in terms of regular cleaning and maintenance, the Bambino wins again. purge which will automatically flush out the water to clean the steam wand after each use. With its self-cleaning feature, the milk wand can save you a lot of time and effort.

Bambino Plus's steam wand auto purge after each use.
Bambino Plus’s steam wand auto purge after each use.

With the Dedica, you’ll have to manually clean your wand after use so it doesn’t clog up. For example, I make espresso every day, even several times a day; it seems a bit exhausting.

Price

The Winner: DeLonghi Dedica Deluxe

Breville is about 200 – $300 more expensive than Delonghi. However, this additional cost also comes with more features such as milk temperature and texture control, three-second warm-up time, and professional grade baskets,…

However, Delonghi is $200 to $300 cheaper than Babino which could be one reason people choose it over Bambino, especially when froth wasn’t important. Because there are a lot of stand-alone milk frothers that make some really nice froth that aren’t very expensive. But that will be a bit clumsy because you have to use many machines on the kitchen counter.

But if you are a beginner and are looking for a mid-range espresso machine, then in terms of price, the DeLonghi may be the winner.

  • Note: 1)Too coarse a grind, too little coffee, or insufficiently tamping the grounds before brewing can all lead to inadequate pressure for a proper brew. 2)It is important to note that the amount of espresso extracted will vary depending on the grind size and amount and reprogramming may be needed when the size and amount are adjusted
