Gaggia Velasca Prestige vs Babila: Ultimate Comparison For Espresso Lovers

I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

Bean-to-cup espresso makers like the Gaggia Velasca Prestige vs Babila are unique and convenient. They cater to just the right things one needs to brew coffee at home. But there can only be one winner, and my pick is the Gaggia Velasca Prestige

Gaggia Velasca Prestige boasts of a perfectly consistent and powerful coffee grinder. The sturdy and well-built housing with premium parts such as the coffee spout, bean hopper, water tank, and drip tray also are nice touches. And we can’t forget its barista-style milk carafe with automatic milk frothing.

Babila is a decent runner-up. You will enjoy its consistent espresso pulls and more variable grinder settings. However, this model is more expensive and doesn’t come with a quick heat-up boiler. So it’s not as good of a deal as Velasca Prestige.

Gaggia Velasca Prestige vs Babila: Differences

Gaggia Velasca Prestige wins 3 – 1 against Babila. Thanks to its super-automatic features and easy brewing process, you can easily make a drink from bean to cup. It also boasts of a bigger water tank, easy cleaning parts. and lower price.

Convenient preparation and brewing Process

With espresso machines, it’s better to have the option to make a wider variety of drinks than just espresso shots. While some people prefer the simple touch-and-go functionality of espresso makers. But those are generally just pod machines.

Features Of Gaggia Velasca Prestige
Features Of Gaggia Velasca Prestige

In the case of the Gaggia Velasca Prestige, you get espresso from freshly ground coffee beans. The machine features a sizable bean hopper and burr grinder. There’s intricate grind settings for adjusting the fineness and coarseness of the beans. It also features 3 temperature adjustments and 5 strength settings. This is on top of the existing 10 fineness settings of the grinder.

The Gaggia Babila is an impressive espresso machine. It works perfectly for direct, bean to brew performance with intricate programmable features and ease of use. My experience with Babila has been great so far. It really does give out professional, barista-style vibes. Starting from its quick start-up time and adjustability.

It has a manual steam wand and milk carafe container. Though it’s the same as the Velasca Prestige with regards to the bean hopper size, front-loading water reservoir capacity, brew strength settings, and grind settings. It’s also quite unique in that it allows deeper, more controlled flexibility.

Wate Tank

Moving on, there is a convenient 54-ounce water tank reservoir. And the best part about it is that it’s front loading. So quicker to access and refill and put back in. Making the Velasca perfect for compact and narrow counter spaces.

Babila has a smaller water tank, 50.7oz, and it is located in the back. So it will require more space to remove and clean.

Cleaning

Maintaining Velasca Prestige is also quite straightforward and user-friendly. It doesn’t take much time. Even if you use it multiple times a day, rinsing and wiping the surface with a clean damp cloth must be done once a week. Thankfully the Velasca Prestige comes with a removable brew group, a front-loading water tank, removable milk carafe, and other sturdy parts.

As for Babila, the bean hopper is a bit difficult to clean, given that it is integrated inside of the machine instead of locating outside like the previous model.

Settings and control

I’m talking about the flow control knob of Babila, one-touch brewing performance with pre-programmed coffee drinks that go beyond your average single and double shot espresso. But what actually steals the show is the adjustment levels of the flow knob. Espresso aficionados love to experiment with the strength of the flavor and texture, so making it a bit stronger or lighter is easier than ever with the flow knob. It sits quietly and sophisticatedly on the side.
