You must check out my verdict on Nespresso Citiz vs Vertuo. Each user has different requirements for their Nespresso machine, and this time I will highlight features that concern buyers looking for a model that serves 2+ people.
My champion is De’Longhi Nespresso Vertuo. It is equipped with a 54.1 oz water tank that is fairly big for capsule machines. It can brew in 4 different cup sizes depending on the customization of each user and the recipe of each coffee capsule. The coffee flavor is top-notch, and the texture is full-bodied. Highly recommended!
De’Longhi Nespresso CitiZ also brews rich and creamy coffee. It has a standard 33.8 oz capsule water tank which makes it decent for 2 users as well. But, this model lacks certain convenience that I have experienced with Vertuo. Thus, it takes second place.

Nespresso Citiz vs Vertuo: Differences
De’Longhi Nespresso Vertuo wins 3 to 1 against De’Longhi Nespresso CitiZ. I’m truly impressed by its espresso quality and consistency in operation. The device also is equipped with a larger tank that is easy to refill. Please find out how both Nespresso machines work for me below.

Coffee Flavor: De’Longhi Nespresso Vertuo
+Heating system
Both De’Longhi Nespresso Vertuo and De’Longhi Nespresso CitiZ use Thermoblock to heat water. And they only take around 30 seconds to finish heating water.
Performance-wise, Citiz actually heats up more efficiently, and the temperature is hot. It does on;y take 25-30s to prepare for extraction. With Vertuo, I notice that the temperature isn’t as hot. So it’s wise to warm it up 1 or 2 minutes prior to brewing time.
+Brewing technique
De’Longhi Nespresso Vertuo uses Centrifusion Technology to extract espresso from the capsules. Basically, it spins the capsules at a very high speed for better extraction. This technology also pushes air in the extraction compartment, which makes more crema.
This is what I get with this model: robust and velvety coffee with thick crema. In general, there isn’t much to complain about the espresso quality. But, sometimes, this model makes too much crema, and I don’t find it attractive. My solution is to adjust the dose.
De’Longhi Nespresso CitiZ uses 19 bars pump pressure system to extract espresso. It delivers tasty coffees and decent crema. This is a very standard model.
With Citiz, there are 2 volume options: Espresso (1. 35 oz. ) and Lungo (5 oz. ). With Vertuo, there are 4 of them. You can brew 5 oz and 7.77 oz for coffees, and 2 different volumes for espressos and double espressos.
Utilities: De’Longhi Nespresso Vertuo

De’Longhi Nespresso Vertuo wins thanks to its descaling alert, big water tank, and wide used capsules container. I don’t have to keep an eye on the descaling part since the device tells you when to do it. And thanks to its big capsule container, you don’t have to clear it out frequently.
With De’Longhi Nespresso CitiZ, the drip tray accommodates tall and short cups thanks to its 2-tier design. As a result, spilling is not an issue with any cup height, and you can brew espressos in most containers you have on hand.
My conclusion is: Vertuo is the more suitable model for 2 or more users. It’s ideal for shared apartments or small families.
Cleaning & Maintain: Tie
Nespresso machines require cleaning capsules. Basically, they are the same as coffee capsules and work in the same way. Each cleaning capsule contains a certain amount of soap, and Nespresso machines “brew” the soap the same way they brew coffee. In the process of doing at, they wash the entire system with cleaning soap and hot water.
Cleaning Nespresso machines is easy and not messy.
Design & Material: De’Longhi Nespresso Vertuo
Material-wise, both machines are made of plastic and metal. For me, this is a good combination of devices in a low price range. The machines are sturdy, lightweight, and affordable. We should see fully stainless steel or aluminum bodies for more expressive models.
De’Longhi Nespresso Vertuo is equipped with a side water tank, and this is when the machine seals the deal for me. A side water tank makes refilling easier. I don’t have to remove it for refilling either.

Nespresso Citiz vs Vertuo: Similarities
De’Longhi Nespresso Vertuo and De’Longhi Nespresso CitiZ share flow stop and automatic power-off features.
Flow stop
It might come to your surprise, but many espresso makers in this price range don’t have a flow stop feature. Users have to stop the brewing process manually when they think they have brewed enough coffee. These models require learning curves, which are not ideal for beginners.
You can avoid this scenario with De’Longhi Nespresso Vertuo and De’Longhi Nespresso CitiZ. These models are perfect for beginners.
Automatic power-off
Both machines enter in power-off mode after 9 minutes of no use. This feature helps save energy and prolong the lifespan of Nespresso machines.
