I have decided on the ultimate winner in the debate of Nespresso Pixie vs Citiz after a few espresso brewing sessions. For me, Nespresso Citiz Delonghi is the ultimate winner.
Nespresso Citiz brews balanced and nuanced coffee flavor depending on each capsule. It has a smart and simple design that assures a quick and efficient brewing experience. I also enjoy that it can accommodate tall cappuccino cups, which is rare for capsule machines. I recommend the model to any busy user who doesn’t want to spend much on Starbuck.
The runner-up Nespresso Pixie Delonghi also does an excellent job extracting espressos and keeping the drinks hot. But the design is not the most convenient, and it doesn’t support tall cups.

Nespresso Pixie vs Citiz: Differences
Nespresso Citiz Delonghi wins 3 to 1 against Nespresso Pixie Delonghi thanks to its intelligent and intuitive design, alongside amazing espresso extractions. If you want a hot cup of latte or any other drink quickly in the morning, I believe this model will meet your needs.
Coffee Flavor: Tie
+Dosing + tamping
Since we are looking at capsule machines, you can expect them to dose and tamp automatically. All you have to do is pick a capsule and put it in the slot. Nespresso Citiz Delonghi and Nespresso Pixie Delonghi handle the rest of the work, capsule to cup.
+Heating system
Both Nespresso Citiz Delonghi and Nespresso Pixie Delonghi use the same Thermoblock heating system to brew espressos. From my experience, it works very well with capsule models since we expect a quick heat-up time with hot water temperature.
Mostly, I will wait 2 minutes for them to heat up completely. But that’s just me procrastinating. They actually take around 30 seconds only to warm up. So if you are a busy worker or college student, Nespresso Citiz Delonghi and Nespresso Pixie Delonghi don’t fail.
+Brewing technique
Using the same 19 bars pump pressure system, the pair can brew high-quality espressos with robust, nuanced, and balanced espressos/ lungos.
But, I notice that Nespresso Pixie Delonghi produces slightly more crema than our winner.
Noise-wise, both are very quiet, which makes me more certain that they are perfect for busy adults with children.
Utilities: Nespresso Citiz Delonghi

Nespresso Citiz Delonghi wins thanks to its two-tiers cup tray, allowing us to easily switch from short to tall cups. For me, this is an extremely convenient feature, even though it is so simple. Making Americano is easier thanks to large cup accommodation.
The Pixie line has one cup tray, and it supports short cups only, which I find inconvenient when I want to make Americano straight away, given that the coffee will spill everywhere.
Cleaning & Maintain: Tie
To clean a capsule machine, we need cleaning capsules. By putting a cleaning capsule where we usually put coffee ones, the device will use water pressure mixed with soap in the cleaning capsule to rinse the entire brew path from any leftover coffee and oil.
As for the drip trays of Nespresso Citiz Delonghi and Nespresso Pixie Delonghi, I suggest you clean them daily and manually. They aren’t dishwasher-friendly since I don’t see any instruction that says they do. And cleaning the drip tray is not that hectic either, so you won’t have a hard time keeping both machines fresh and odorless.
Design & Material: Nespresso Citiz Delonghi
Not wanting to sound negative, but I’m not too fond of the lever design of Nespresso Pixie Delonghi. Basically, by pulling the lever up, you open the capsule slot to put in a capsule to start a brewing session.
It sounds simple, but the lever is always in the way when I try to slide the capsule in. With Citiz, I simply have to open the capsule compartment and drop it in without having to squeeze my hand and fingers under a lever.

Nespresso Pixie vs Citiz: Similarities
There are 2 small similarities between Nespresso Citiz Delonghi and Nespresso Pixie Delonghi. Check them out below.
Flow Stop
Even though these models are very affordable, they still have a flow stop function which machines at higher price ranges have. And I prefer an espresso machine that knows its perfect shot.
I have tried and reviewed many models. Thus I can guarantee that it doesn’t worth the investment if you buy a machine without a flow stop feature. You will have to cut off the brewing session manually without actually knowing if the espresso shot is perfectly extracted at the right amount or not.
Overall, this is a convenient feature that I find quite important in espresso makers.
Quick Heat-up Time
Since Nespresso Citiz Delonghi and Nespresso Pixie Delonghi are capsule machines, they don’t take much time to heat up to the ideal brewing temperature. Usually, it takes me an average of 30s to start them up. But I prefer to leave them on for 1 minute or 2 to ensure that the espresso temperature comes out hot.
Quick Rundown of Nespresso Citiz Delonghi
- Note: 1)Too coarse a grind, too little coffee, or insufficiently tamping the grounds before brewing can all lead to inadequate pressure for a proper brew. 2)It is important to note that the amount of espresso extracted will vary depending on the grind size and amount and reprogramming may be needed when the size and amount are adjusted

I am a passionate coffee drinker. Since I left my job as a barista a few years back in 2012, I’ve been sharing my expertise on coffee and buying the best coffee equipment online. That’s how Wild Boar Coffee came to life.
I write about everything coffee-related under the sun. Where to buy the freshest coffee beans from? How to test coffee beans based on texture, aroma, and acidity?
I know all this from scratch – all thanks to my years and years of experience as a barista. So I’ve gotten real up-close-and-personal with coffee beans and different brewing techniques.
