Delonghi Magnifica XS vs Magnifica – What To Look For
Delonghi Magnifica XS wins 4-1 against Magnifica in comparison. It achieves high marks as a super-automatic coffee machine with a qualìty build, helpful grinding, brewing adjustability and easy cleaning require.
1. Build Quality

Delonghi Magnifica XS: It’s solidly built and longer-lasting. The ‘XS’ stands for a more compact frame but it still packs a punch. It is a bean-to-cup which means it features a stainless steel grinder. A 60-ounce water tank, 0.5-pound bean hopper, coffee grounds tray, and a professional water filter.
Delonghi Magnifica: This is also a bean-to-cup with a lighter smaller (0.4-pound) bean hopper, a 60-ounce water tank, stainless steel grinder, and a water filter. It does cost a bit extra for a charcoal water filter which I highly suggest you pay for.
2. Grinding
Delonghi Magnifica XS: A stainless steel grinder with 13 levels of adjustment can be quite helpful for a beginner and advanced user. This one’s grinder is all stainless steel and cone type of coffee grinder. It doesn’t get too hot. To grind the coffee beans on demand is easy, fast, and consistent.
Delonghi Magnifica: It has the same stainless steel grinder with 13 levels of adjustment. The dial setting is easy to adjust. You may have to use it a few times to get to your ideal adjustment. To get the best results – choose a blend that’s not too fine or too coarse.
3. Brewing
Delonghi Magnifica XS: In my comparison tests, the XS offers more adjustability than Magnifica. I’ve already told you about the grinding bit. But with the XS, you can also adjust the strength of the coffee and cup size as well. The control panel uses icons to illustrate the best possible route for you.
Delonghi Magnifica: With the Magnifica, there aren’t any LCD readouts like the Magnifica XS. You have the volume dial and the grounds dial that lets you control how much ground coffee you want per cup. This is the ideal setup for someone who prefers a strong caffeine kick in the morning and then something mild later on.
4. Milk
Delonghi Magnifica XS: Other than brewing some really delicious espresso, the steam wand also steams milk to perfection. It produces the perfect dense foam that blends well with latte or cappuccino or mocha. You’ll get steamed and velvety smooth in about 90 seconds.
Delonghi Magnifica: In the Delonghi Magnifica, the steam wand gets the milk to the desire temperature and texture. It’s great for light foam and takes about 60 seconds. So it’s slightly faster than Magnifica XS. It creates authentic, barista-style micro-bubbles that give lattes and cappuccinos that perfect creamy taste.
5. Cleaning
Delonghi Magnifica XS: Not a lot of people know this but a hot water dispenser plays a significant role in the maintenance of an espresso maker. You can use it to rinse the coffee grounds plate, the espresso cups you use before brewing. You can also use hot water to clean the steam wand after use.
Delonghi Magnifica: A removable drip tray, removable brew chamber, proper indicators that let you know when the right time is to clean. All these features set the Delonghi Magnifica apart from many high-end espresso makers as well.
Cleaning a super-automatic machine, any super-automatic machine is no easy task. But it’s worth the effort because the Magnifica lasts for years and years.
