I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

The Jura C60 vs C5 are both automatic espresso machines equipped with Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma technology to improve the flavour of espresso. But between the 2, the Jura C5 is for anyone looking for a better and superior espresso and milk foam quality. It’s also a great choice if you’re on a tight budget but don’t want to compromise on features and design quality.

The Jura C60, on the other hand, is more expensive with the same features as the C5. A single Thermoblock boiler, pre-brew functionality, and impressive grinder levels. You can a lot more, in the long run, with a machine like the Jura C60. But it does cost more money than the C5.

Jura C60 vs C5: Differences

Though both espresso makers have almost all features in common, the C5 wins with a higher durability rating than the Jura C60. And it is on those factors which include a stronger coffee grinder, sturdier design, and affordability that the Jura C5 is the winner here (3 – 0).

1. Espresso Quality

The Winner: Jura C5

Coffee Grinder Adjustments

While both espresso machines are equipped with a steel conical burr grinder with multiple adjustment levels, the Jura C5 features 6 grind settings while the Jura C60 features 5 levels.

Though it’s only 1 level of difference – for someone, this can change the way one brews delicious espresso at home completely!

I should also point out these Jura products have more things in common than they don’t. So noting the slight difference in their grinding mechanism is necessary to decide which of the two you should be buying.

Coffee Grinding Mechanism

Another great thing about the Jura C5 is its grinding capacity and speed. It achieves the level of fineness you need for a delicious espresso. Whatever level you set the grinder on, the blades won’t overheat. They grind the beans consistently. And you can also add pre-ground coffee for decaf – it takes less than 2 minutes to brew coffee either way!

The bean hopper of the Jura C60 doesn’t work as it should. There is no discernible fault with the grinding mechanism on the C60. But the bean hopper’s inadequacy, sometimes, does stretch time.

It might be difficult to refill the bean hopper from time to time. You also should be very selective about the beans you use in the C60. Because it will get stuck – especially oilier coffee beans.

I’ve had no such complaint when using the C5. Despite this minor inconvenience, the C60 accurately grinds the beans based on the level you select. But if the grinder clogs up quickly, run a descale/cleaning cycle and it’ll work just fine!

2. Milk System

The Winner: Jura C5

The Jura C60 comes with an automatic frother that is built-in. The spout is connected with a tube that pulls the milk in to steam it and then it pours through the milk spout into the cup. This makes cleaning a little bit trickier than the C5 that features a steam wand for authentic barista-style milk steam.

Just place the jug under the steam wand on the Jura C5 and it will automatically steam the milk without your interference.

Moving on, the milk frothing mechanism on the Jura uses high-pressure steam to froth milk.

The coffee spout is adjustable to accommodate slightly tall cups and the milk jug for steaming. They do not feature milk temperature adjustments but I assure you that the steam is hot and consistent for intense and creamy milk textures.

The rotary dial on top of the Easy Cappuccino Frother lets you pick from the espresso or steam settings. Both machines use a single Thermoblock boiler so some wait-time between cups is expected.

3. Cost & Maintenance

The Winner: Jura C5

Price is a huge concern when there’s at least a $500 difference between two competitors. So you have to factor in which espresso maker is worth more than its counterpart.

Between the Jura C60 and Jura C5, the latter is more affordable. The Jura C60 is quite expensive to buy, and by extension, it is also expensive to operate and maintain. It demands more cleaning and filters replacement on a monthly basis. Apart from the few cleaning tablets that Jura provides, the cost of the water filter and cleaning tablets are expensive too.

Finally, there is plastic on the side of the machine that heats up, right where the steam spout is. While this is a noticeable design flaw, for $500 more, anybody would wonder what you’re paying more for.

Having said that, the Jura C5 is more budget-friendly and comes with no such design drawback. It stays cool and stable. And it doesn’t demand excessive maintenance from you.

The machine will immediately prompt you for cleaning and it’ll last for years and years without giving you any grief!

Jura C60 vs C5: Similarities

1. Espresso Flavor

They both feature a 15 bar pump system and Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System with adjustable coffee strength, grinding, and coffee temperature settings.

The Thermoblock heating system ensures that no temperature loss occurs between cups and milk frothing. The quality of the espresso and the crema it produces on both machines is better and very easy to control.

Whether you’re brewing an old-school cup of coffee or a fancier latte/cappuccino drink first thing in the morning, the brewing functionality on both machines is better with just a few modifications like aroma and grind levels.

2. Dose Control

The Jura C60 features a 2-cup function that lets you brew 2 cups of espresso at the same time. There is no other way to put this; only that it brews faster for 2 people, doubling the grind volume and coffee volume, without losing either speed or temperature.

The same is true for the Jura C5.

Moving on, the serving sizes of both machines are also the same. The dosage is between 5g to 18g.

One-Touch brewing, on Jura C60 and C5, is applicable for espresso and coffee drinks. Plus, you have the hot water function to make rich and intense Americanos – or even piping hot tea.

Both machines have a large water reservoir (up to 64 ounces) to accommodate back-to-back brewing and steaming without the need for refilling.
