Even though the DeLonghi Eletta is a well-rounded bean-to-cup espresso maker for home brewers, the Breville Oracle Touch is more advanced. But you can still buy the DeLonghi Eletta for its simple features and consistent performance.
But if you’re like me, and you crave a lot more for the same price point, the Breville Oracle Touch’s intuitive and modern features will take your breath away. It features a touchscreen display with creative coffee features for automatic and manual use. With a tap of your finger, you can make really great barista-inspired drinks in seconds rather than minutes.
Though the DeLonghi Eletta offers similar espresso results, it takes a little bit longer. But you can still brew comfortably at home and save more money in the long run with a machine like Breville Oracle Touch vs DeLonghi Eletta

Breville Oracle Touch vs Delonghi Eletta: Differences
The Breville Oracle Touch brings upgraded functionality down to a home brewer’s kitchen. And that is why it wins the battle 5 – 1 against the DeLonghi Eletta.
1. Size & Construction
The Winner: Breville Oracle Touch / DeLonghi Eletta

The whole design of both espresso machines differs. Where the dimensions and weight of Breville Oracle Touch are 15.4 x 14.7 x 17.9 inches and 37.2 pounds respectively, that of DeLonghi Eletta is 14.2 x 10.2 x 14.1 inches and 24.2 pounds respectively.
Now what’s obvious here is that the Eletta model by DeLonghi is more compact and lightweight. Whereas Breville’s Oracle Touch is more space-consuming and, in a way, bulkier and heavier.
Now let’s move on to the construction and build quality of both automatic espresso machines. Breville Oracle Touch is indeed made using higher-grade stainless steel. Not that DeLonghi Eletta has a poor quality construction or anything; it’s just that the former since it’s the more expensive unit, offers a more dependable quality/construction.
As for color options, Breville offers 3 (brushed stainless steel, black stainless steel, and black truffle) and DeLonghi offers only 2 (black and silver).
2. Storage
The Winner: Breville Oracle Touch

Since Eletta’s a more compact espresso machine, its water reservoir has to be of a comparatively smaller capacity, which is 47 ounces. But the capacity of the bean hopper is 400g.
Oracle Touch, however, has a larger water tank capacity of 84 ounces. And it’s bigger, in comparison to DeLonghi Eletta, as its bean hopper size is half a pound. This means it’s 100g extra than the Eletta Touch. So in both ways, the Breville Oracle Touch demands less maintenance and refilling for new users.
With 84 ounces, you have to refill per 10 cups of coffee – I’d say that’s both long and convenient enough. As for Eletta, the automatic coffee maker alerts you when it’s time for reloading the water reservoir, so you don’t have to worry about running out of juice.
Also, even with its relatively smaller 47-ounce water tank, this espresso machine is an upgraded model over the brand’s predecessors. Both the water tank and bean hopper capacities of DeLonghi Eletta are larger than their earlier variants.
3. Interface
The Winner: Breville Oracle Touch

You upgrade to Breville Oracle Touch because of the ‘Touch’ function and convenience. The Touch screen is simply an amazing addition to just about ANY coffee/espresso maker. The drink options are displayed on the screen, and the whole thing is so simple to use. Just choose your settings, touch, and then follow the straightforward instructions.
Automation is a part of every single stage of Oracle Touch. So you can prepare your cappuccino, flat white, espresso, long black, and more without any complications.
Unfortunately, you do not have a touch screen with DeLonghi Eletta. But you do get a single-touch intuitive display. Press a single button to get the espresso machine to do what you want. No doubt, for a daily coffee drinker, this machine’s incredibly easy and convenient to operate/maintain.
4. Programmability
The Winner: Breville Oracle Touch

The Breville Oracle Touch features an automatic espresso brewing technology. The automated touchscreen lets you select and brew coffee at every stage. This means selecting from 5 amazing coffee drinks such as espresso flat white, latte, Americano, and cappuccino. It also allows you to adjust and save up to 8 customized drinks of your choice.
Within each programmable option, you can adjust the milk temperature, texture, coffee grind size, and temperature.
With the DeLonghi Eletta, however, you can adjust important espresso variables such as the grinding, temperature, and shot volume. On Eletta’s control panel, you have the Automatic Cappuccino and Milk Menu option for better customization.
Grind size control and temperature control are a part of Delonghi Eletta as well. Although adjusting milk texture level is not possible. The brand has incorporated an automatic milk frother indeed but with its exclusive Latte Crema System technology. This certainly gives you rich, dense foam at the touch of a single button.
5. Coffee Grinder
The Winner: Breville Oracle Touch
Both the Breville Oracle Touch and the DeLonghi Eletta come with a built-in coffee grinder. However, the Breville Oracle Touch goes the extra mile with its impressive auto grinding and tamping mechanism.
Once you select the coffee you’d like to drink, the machine will automatically grind the correct dose (22g) and tamp it without creating a mess. The tamping flattens the coffee grounds smoothly, creating a soft and balanced texture to avoid bitterness during extraction.
The DeLonghi Eletta grinds coffee well and quickly. It features an integrated grinder with 13 adjustable grinding settings and a bypass doser. The quality of the grinder is not bad at all. It does require a bit of a learning curve in that you need to understand the basics of coffee strength and grind to be able to produce delicious, and not weak-tasting, espresso.
For that, I favor the Breville Oracle Touch because it does take some of the guesswork away from a beginner who may not know the basics of espresso brewing at home. Making the Delonghi Eletta good for intermediates, not beginners.
6. Heat-Up Time
The Winner: Breville Oracle Touch

Breville is a brand that has designed espresso machines with record-breaking heat-up time. There’s one that heats up in just 3 seconds! Thanks to its stainless steel dual boiler which. As for Breville Oracle Touch, its auto-on settings are just the thing that heats up the coffee maker right when you want to use it.
In fact, this model is also built with a portafilter that is also heated in advance, meaning before you put your coffee grinds into it. And you know what happens when that happens? An already hot portafilter enhances the taste of your coffee during the tamping process. On that note, automatic tamping is simply amazing with Oracle Touch!
On the other hand, with DeLonghi Eletta, the average time taken for heating up the espresso machine to brew is 60 seconds. With its Automatic Cappuccino system, you can make a cappuccino, caffe latte, or a latte macchiato in less than 3 minutes.
The dual Thermoblock heating elements ensure smooth heat-up time. But it’s not necessarily faster than the Breville Oracle Touch.
7. Temperature Control
The Winner: Breville Oracle Touch
There’s the special PID digital temperature control technology with Breville Oracle Touch, combined with the stainless steel dual boiler. The dual boiler definitely adds more weight to the Oracle Touch but it makes it faster and more efficient too.
It is responsible for precise water temperature control in order to bring out the nuanced, delicious flavors of espresso. The thing is that only when the water temperature is perfectly balanced does full coffee extraction occur. And you can brew and steam without losing temperature even if you drink multiple espressos a day!
The DeLonghi Eletta features electronic temperature control with professional heating elements. So it can prepare espresso and steam milk automatically, thanks to its dual boiler system.
Breville Oracle Touch vs Delonghi Eletta: Similarities
1. Bean To Cup Functionality
Both the Breville Oracle Touch and DeLonghi Eletta are bean-to-cup espresso machines. The automated touch/display screen lets you choose what drink you want. And the machine takes care of the rest. You can adjust the temperature, strength, and volume of coffee quickly.
Provided that bean to cup espresso makers cost more but they serve for a very long time as your very own personal barista! You can make espresso without paying per cup. And try out different roasts and blends easily by adding them directly into the bean hopper.
2. Automatic Steam Wand
The steam wands of Breville Oracle Touch and the DeLonghi Eletta are amazing, made for true coffee aficionados. The simple fact that the espresso machine not just steams milk but also steams the milk to your choice of temperature automatically at the touch of a single button is a rare occurrence.
You can focus wholly on just brewing your favorite, delicious espresso. No need to bother yourself with frothed milk quality concerns; perfect microfoam for latte art indeed.
For that perfect velvety texture, what’s absolutely needed is the right steam pressure for drawing in air and creating thousands of those tiny bubbles. Hence, the automated steam wand of Breville and Delonghi can create that sort of silky smooth, latte-art-friendly microfoam.
Quick Rundown Of Breville Oracle Touch BES990
- Note: 1)Too coarse a grind, too little coffee, or insufficiently tamping the grounds before brewing can all lead to inadequate pressure for a proper brew. 2)It is important to note that the amount of espresso extracted will vary depending on the grind size and amount and reprogramming may be needed when the size and amount are adjusted
- The Breville Oracle Touch Espresso Machine with automation at every stage with touch screen operation to simply swipe and select for espresso, long black, latte, flat white or cappuccino and enjoy third wave specialty coffee at home.
- Dose Control: The integrated conical burr grinder automatically grinds, doses and tamps 18-22 grams of coffee, similar to the commercial espresso machine in your favorite cafe.
- Espresso Machine with precise water temperature: Achieve balanced tasting espresso with the Breville Oracle Touch Espresso Machine complete with a digital temperature control (PID) technology, which ensures the temperature is kept at its optimum range
- Optimal Water Pressure: The Over Pressure Valve (OPV) is a commercial feature included in the Oracle Touch. This limits the maximum pressure throughout the extraction, helping prevent bitter flavors in the coffee shot. It also has true low pressure pre-infusion, which gradually increases the pressure to gently expand the grinds for an even extraction.

I am a passionate coffee drinker. Since I left my job as a barista a few years back in 2012, I’ve been sharing my expertise on coffee and buying the best coffee equipment online. That’s how Wild Boar Coffee came to life.
I write about everything coffee-related under the sun. Where to buy the freshest coffee beans from? How to test coffee beans based on texture, aroma, and acidity?
I know all this from scratch – all thanks to my years and years of experience as a barista. So I’ve gotten real up-close-and-personal with coffee beans and different brewing techniques.
