Breville Oracle Touch vs Jura Z8: Differences

In the debate of Breville Oracle Touch vs Jura Z8, the latter wins 3 – 2 against the former thanks to its ability to brew exceptional coffee flavor, convenient beverages settings, consistent operation, and easy milk system. The one-touch coffee jug is my favorite as well.

Coffee Flavor: Jura Z8

Grinder’s Features and Adjustability

Both Jura Z8 and Breville Oracle Touch’s grinders are conical burrs and adjustable so users can decide the size of coffee grinds accordingly.

After testing both models, I find the one on Jura Z8 to work more consistently, and the grounds always are even. The one on Breville can also deliver the same evenness with the ground but once I found leftover beans on the grinding wheel, which can lead to jams in the long run if this is a constant issue.

With slightly roasted beans, I suggest that you set the grinder on a high level so the ground will be finer. Thus the extraction will give you a stronger coffee flavor. And for throughout roasted beans, make sure that the grinder grinds coarser grounds.

Dosing + Tamping

Jura Z8 grinds, doses, and tamps coffee ground automatically and all you have to do is pick the drink you want the brew. The maximum dose is around 60g of coffee ground, and it is adjustable. Thus you can make coffee with a balanced and soft taste or more robust coffee.

The best part about it is that you can personalize the brew setting through an app. By connecting the app to this model, you can change the coffee strength, temperature, amount of water, etc. All these affect the coffee flavor.

With the Z8, you will get nuanced espresso flavor with variable strength, depending on how you set the recipes. One thing I know for sure is that this machine can pull thick crema. So if you enjoy creamy coffee, this machine is right in your lane.

Breville Oracle Touch, you always get 22g of coffee ground in the portafilter automatically, and the machine tamps the puck right after dosing as well. Oracle Touch is the definition of bean to cup. You will get sweet, balanced, and nuanced coffee without having to control the grinding and brewing process.

Heating system: Features and Stability

Both machines have strengths and weaknesses in terms of heating systems. First of all, both are equipped with dual boilers, one for brewing and one for steaming. So both models are very efficient.

As for the Jura Z8, it offers 3 settings for brewing temperature so you can get the best of the coffee beans that you use.

However, it is not equipped with a high-end temperature control system, which is something machines of 3000 or 4000$ should have. Nevertheless, I have never experienced bad coffee temperatures with this model. But it is hard to say for the long run.

As for Breville Oracle Touch, it is designed with PID technology with maintains the brewing temperature at the right range, around 195 to 205F. Actually, you can adjust the brewing heat and the machine will start brewing when it reaches the temperature you have set.

I have pulled around 100+ shots of espresso with this one and I always get the perfect espresso/coffee temperature that I enjoy, which is around 195F out of the tap.

Milk system: Jura z8

As an ex-barista, I appreciate the milk systems on both models.

With Breville Oracle Touch, you get a classic steam wand with which you can control the texture of the milk manually, without having to swirl the jug too much of course. It is effortless to work with. I always steam around 120ml of milk to go with a 60ml espresso shot and the results have been very consistent. There is nothing to complain about.

As for the Jura Z8, this machine steams and froths milk automatically with its separate carafe, which means that all you have to do is pick the beverage and the machine will pour: espresso, steamed milk, and milk foam according to the recipes. I have tried to make lattes, cappuccinos, macchiatos, and so far so good. The temperature of the milk never comes out under average.

Cleaning & MaintainL: Breville Oracle Touch

Breville clearly wins this round since the milk system cleanses itself automatically after working with the milk. With the Jura Z8, you will have to clean the milk system with a milk cleaning solution (which you can buy from Jura).

I followed the instruction, which was pouring some solution into a tray and attaching the milk nozzle to the tray. The machine then started the cleanse the milk system pushing impurities out. Later I had to clean the tray for future use. Overall, I was not impressed by the process since I had to pay for more apart from the 4000$ that I spent on the machine.

Additional Features: Jura Z8

Number of One-touch Beverages

Jura Z8 wins in this aspect thanks to its 16 preprogrammed beverages. We are talking about latte, cappuccino, americano, ristretto, flat white, hot water in different temperatures for tea, milk foam, macchiato, coffee jug, etc.

Jura Z8 offers 16 preprogrammed beverages

As for the Breville one, it has 5 preprogrammed beverages that allow us to make espresso, americano, flat white, latte, and cappuccino. I find the settings quite satisfying already, but compared to Jura Z8, this model is undoubtedly in second place in this aspect.

Warming Tray

Breville wins in this aspect thanks to its efficient cup warming tray. The tray receives the heat from the boiler underneath and it only takes 2 or 3 minutes to warm up the cup. I don’t recommend leaving for a longer time since it can get too hot that it is uncomfortable to hold constantly.

As for the Jura model, it doesn’t come with a cup warming tray, which is a shame since the heating system on this device is not designed with precise temperature control technology.

Even though I have never experienced a bad temperature with Z8, it would have calmed me more if it came with a cup warmer, which helps a lot in case the brewing temperature doesn’t go high enough.

Coffee Jug

It is very rare to encounter an espresso machine that can brew a giant coffee jug, but Jura Z8 can. With one touch of the button, we get a 40oz freshly brewed aromatic coffee.

Also, the height of the machine’s spout is adjustable so you can use a tall jug to catch all the coffee without any problem. The maximum compatible height cup/jug height is 6 inches. I find this one-touch setting very convenient when I have friends over since I don’t have to wait too long or run between table-kitchen, kitchen-table for coffees.

Design & Material: Breville ORacle touch

Don’t get me wrong, I like the design of both machines, and they are made of quite impressive materials like stainless steel or aluminum.

But the Breville is the winner since the entire body of this model is stainless steel. It gives the device a sturdy feel, and there is no doubt it will withstand crashing here and there.

As for the Z8, I love the aluminum design, which gives the machine a sleek and lightweight feel. But only the front and the top of the machine are made of this desirable material. The back and sides of this model are made of crisp plastic, which gives me a bit of anxiety.

But in general, we all tend to maintain this type of electronic device carefully, so I doubt there will be major issues. Though I would love for it to come entirely in aluminum.

Breville Oracle Touch vs Jura Z8: Similarities

There are some crucial similarities that make Breville Oracle Touch and Jura Z8 desirable products. You can trust their conical burr grinders and dual boilers to deliver consistent operation and coffee flavor.

Conical Burr Grinder

Breville Oracle Touch and Jura Z8 come with conical burr grinders that are integrated into the machine, accompanied by big bean hoppers. Both grinders are of conical burr type, which minimizes the possibility of leftover ground in the grinding wheel and changes of beans quality. The lifespan of conical burr grinders is much longer than that of blade grinders as well.

Dual boilers

Both models make great use of their dual boilers. The brew group uses a different boiler, and the steam system uses another. This assures that the temperature of the milk is not too hot and the water is not too cool. The dual boilers indeed affect the temperature significantly.

Also, we can steam milk while the machine is brewing. No waiting required!
