Gaggia Brera Vs Philips 3200 Lattego: Review 2 Cut-Price Espresso Machines For Beginners

I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

If you want to know which espresso machine is better between Gaggia Brera vs Philips 3200 Lattego, I have a quick answer for you: Philips 3200 Lattego.

After a few months of testing, I find Philips 3200 Lattego highly stable with excellent espresso flavor, silent grinder, and easy cleaning cycles. In this price range, this model is the one that impresses me the most. It has a bunch of one-touch recipes, among which cappuccino and Americano are the most delicious. Highly recommendable!

As for Gaggia Brera, this model leaves a very mediocre impression on me since the espresso quality is okay, and there aren’t many additional features to it that help elevate the extraction experience. Extra simple espresso machines are for commercial purposes or drinkers who enjoy espresso only, which I don’t find fitting in this nowadays home use.

Gaggia Brera vs Philips 3200 Lattego: Differences

Philips 3200 Lattego wins over 3-1 against Gaggia Brera. Espresso flavor-wise, both machines perform pretty well. But Philips 3200 Lattego is equipped with a more elaborate milk system and convenient one-touch beverages. And how does each function of each model works? You can check my experience with the 2 below.

Coffee flavor: Tie

+Grinder

Philips 3200 Lattego and Gaggia Brera uses ceramic burr grinders, one of the best types of the market right now in terms of efficiency, performance, and material. But the reality shows that one machine’s grinder is much better than the other.

I’m satisfied with Philips 3200 LatteGo’s grinder. It works with such high stability and delivers such even ground texture that I have been able to get robust and balanced espressos consistently. Also, it barely makes any noise when working, which is very impressive for coffee grinders.

Of course, I wouldn’t say that the noise level is unnoticeable since this is not a realistic statement for coffee grinders. But, 3200 Lattego indeed is one of the quietest that I have tested.

As for Gaggia Brera, sadly, I can’t achieve the same experience with this device’s grinder. It worked well at the beginning. But, after over 20 brewing sessions throughout over 3+ months, I started to notice jams, the beans don’t feed to the grinder automatically, and the grinder basically stopped working. Thus, my perspective of this grinder has been “not friendly.”

+Heating system

Gaggia Brere need 30s to heat up
Gaggia Brera need 30s to heat up

In terms of temperature performance, I find Philips 3200 Lattego and Gaggia Brera more or less similar. These devices can heat up very quickly, 30s for Gaggia Brera and 45s – 1 minute for Philips 3200 Lattego. And the results are hot cups of coffee or espresso that are ideal for enjoying right away.

In other words, the temperature of the drinks isn’t as steaming as many other more potent machines. But it ensures a soothing and warm-hot experience.

Milk System: Philips 3200 Lattego

LatteGo is such a potent carafe that I doubt any milk system of this price range can beat. It can froth from creamy milk foam for mocha and flat white to dry foam for latte and cappuccino art. After so much testing, I believe this is one of or maybe the best automatic milk system that I have ever tried with a non-commercial machine.

As for Gaggia Brera, dry foam is not its biggest strength. However, it can handle steamed milk with a velvety texture with ease.

Utilities: Philips 3200 Lattego

Why wouldn’t a machine with so many one-touch beverages like Philips 3200 LatteGo win this round? I can enjoy a diverse variety of drinks at the touch of the screen. I’m talking about Americano, cappuccino, latte macchiato, alongside classic espresso and coffee. And it’s possible twin brewing as well. What could be more convenient than that?

Cleaning & Maintenance: Philips 3200 Lattego

If you’ve checked out some of my earlier reviews, you’ll know how much I love the cleaning system that comes with Philips 3200 Lattego. It’s not because it’s super expensive. It’s because it satisfies the fundamental needs of the user when cleaning an espresso machine. It has several alarms that alert you about an empty water tank, scale issue, or an unclean system.

There’s also one button for the water filter and the cleaning cycle. This will help keep the entire brew process clean for a week. Every month, it’s recommended to clean the brew group at least once.

Gaggia Brera vs Philips 3200 Lattego: Similarities

It’s important to keep in mind 2 things that Philips 3200 Lattego and Gaggia Brera have in common: the frontal water tank and the spout height. Don’t miss it.

Frontal water tank

Philips 3200 Lattego and Gaggia Brera have frontal water tanks that can easily be removed for deep cleaning and refills. For me, frontal and side water tanks are the most convenient to manage. I wouldn’t suggest a backside water tank unless the machine is highly affordable.

Adjustable spout height

These espresso machines boast of adjustable spout heights, a common and must-have feature for this type of device, especially for those who can make milk-based coffees automatically. In the case of Philips 3200 Lattego, we can change the height of the dispenser from 3.3 to 5.7 inches. It can accommodate a large variety of cup sizes and heights.

As for Gaggia Brera, the spout height varies from 3.25 to 4.5 inches, so there are fewer options for cup height. However, since this model doesn’t have a one-touch cappuccino or latte and specializes in espresso and classic coffee only, it doesn’t need a tall dispenser since the drinks volumes are minimal already. Thus, a short cup should work perfectly.
