There’s only one way to make really great espresso coffee at home. And that is with an espresso maker that doesn’t burn too deep a hole in your pocket. Two of my favorites are the Delonghi ECP3630 vs EC155 espresso makers.

They both feature some really amazing benefits in terms of their price, build quality, convenience, and durability. Between the Delonghi ECP3630 vs EC155, the EC3620 is a modern and classy pick. It boasts of a stainless steel design and can hold up to 37 ounces of water. The EC155, conversely, has a plastic exterior and is 2 ounces short in terms of its refillable tank.

It’s extraordinary that just for $100 more, you can really upgrade the way you make espresso at home with the Delonghi EC3630. So it’s fair to say that the decision to buy the ECP3630 over the EC155 is purely based on budget. And let’s not forget how the price of an espresso maker also influences its performance and reliability.

Delonghi ECP3630 vs EC155 – Similarities

Features Of Delonghi ECP3630 vs EC155
Features Of Delonghi ECP3630 vs EC155

Let’s go over the features that both Delonghi ECP3630 and EC155 offer:

1. 3-in-1 Filter Holder

This feature lets you use ground coffee and espresso pods easily. You can use the single and double filter holder for freshly ground coffee. Or the separate espresso pod slot for pre-ground coffee. Quick and simple.

2. Professional Milk Frother

A high-quality frother can really set the tone for how you’d like to drink your espressos. In cappuccino, latte, macchiato, flat white, and other delicious concoctions. Steaming milk at home is something that every espresso lover would like to do. And these machines allow you to do so without any delay or inconsistency in results.

3. One-Touch Operation

Delonghi machines are super easy to use and it is because they want your zero involvement that they are fun for you. These ones deliver fresh and delicious espresso at the touch of a single button. You don’t have to dial in to measure the proper temperature or pressure even.

And, as a plus, both machines offer twin brewing cycles. This means you can brew 2 single shots of espresso in two separate cups at the same time. The double dispenser spout is easy to clean and sturdy. You won’t have any trouble placing two espresso cups underneath.

Delonghi ECP3630 vs EC155 – Differences

Even though the differences are a few, they will help you decide the better espresso machine for you.

1. Refillable Water Tank Size

A single shot of espresso uses 1-1.5 fluid ounces of water. And on average, an espresso drinker drinks 1-3 cups of espresso daily. That means the usage of 3 to 4.5 ounces of water daily for pulling espresso shots. This excludes the need for steaming the milk and dispensing hot water.

In the ECP3630, the water capacity is 37 ounces. That is approximately the size of a whole week’s worth of espresso and steaming. Even more, if you don’t drink espresso every day. Less refilling of the water tank means less cleaning.

The EC155, on the other hand, features a 35-ounce water tank. It’s relatively smaller but not too small. 2 ounces will shed a day’s worth.

2. Material

This is a significant difference that makes the most impact on this debate. The ECP3630 looks and feels more modern and sturdy because of its stainless steel build quality. EC155 is plastic and so there have been complaints with regards to its flimsy and noisy body.

For long-lasting durability, go for the ECP3630. It’s easier to clean as well since it’s stainless steel. Plastic attracts dirt, stains, and odor quicker. And so can look worn out very soon even if you don’t use it so often.

3. Drip Tray

There’s not enough room on the EC155 for a wider mug. The ECP3630, however, offers plenty of room for 1-2 mugs. The sturdy quality and wider base make less of a mess per cup. And with the hot water dispenser, you don’t have to worry about cleaning espresso splatters.  You can use hot water to quickly wipe the drip tray and the wall in between it and the portafilter.

4. Cleaning

It’s a breeze to clean the ECP3630. Since it’s already a well-made unit, the parts are easy to remove and rinse under water.

The EC155 is a drag to clean. It requires plenty of maintenance. You have to detach all the important parts of the machine to check the interior.

So it feels as if I’m setting the machine all over again each time I clean which is not annoying considering that it works perfectly after that. But it just takes a long, long time. And you have to do it very often.
