Are you feeling unsatisfied with your current coffee maker? Consider buying between the Delonghi EC155 vs ECP3420 espresso makers if you are a beginner. Both machines are compact, sturdy, and ergonomic. But if you ask me, i would say that ECP3420 is slightly better.

Both are undeniably tight options for affordable machine range, but ECP3420 appears more sturdy, functional and well-rounded. You can trust the frother and warming tray of this model to perform beautifully.

EC155, on the other hand, doesn’t come with a good warming tray and is a bit more expensive than the previous model. But what you get from this machine is consistent espresso quality. So i still recommend it.

Delonghi EC155 vs ECP3420: Differences

ECP3420 wins over EC155 by 2 to 1. The control is more beginner-friendly and allows users to pull rich espresso shots without difficulty. And the steam wand will offer the ideal milk foam texture. Read on to find out more.

15 Bar Pump System

15 Bar Pump System Between DeLonghi EC155 vs ECP3420

The Delonghi EC155 and ECP3420 offer a 15 bar pump system. This is a professional-grade brewing standard. It’s powerful, consistent, and performance-driven.

Rich and delicious espresso is its forte. And it produces single and double shots of espresso in the most authentic way one can at home – especially in such a budget-minded manner.

Comparing the EC155 with the ECP3420, the EC155 is great for beginners. It does feature a slightly louder pump system than the ECP3420. Nor is it a drawback in any way and nor does it lag or prolong espresso extraction. It’s smooth all the way through.

The pump system of the Delonghi EC3420 delivers rich espresso coffee. It has a strong aroma that will spread all over your kitchen. However, the downside to EC3420’s 15 bar pump system is that it doesn’t always deliver consistent espresso results. So it’s necessary to expect some under-extracted or over-saturated and watery espressos every now and then.

Control Panel

Are both coffee machines user-friendly? If you see the EC155 and the ECP3420, both have a dial with the power, steam, temperature, and dispenser icons. Adjusting the dial to access each icon means controlling everything that the espresso maker does. From powering up the espresso maker to heat up the water, pulling a single/double shot, and frothing the milk.

The ECP3420 has a dial and a knob for better accessibility. The ECP3420 also works on a trial-and-error kind of deal. Where you will have to learn a few basics of pulling espresso shots using a pump espresso maker. But the ECP3420 makes the whole process easier and faster to do.

Once you dial in to start the machine, it takes about 45 seconds to get ready. Once you pull your shot, turn the dial to illuminate the steaming feature. The machine does have a light indicator to let you know when the water is hot and ready to serve. Red light means the machine is warming up and green means that it’s ready!

The EC155’s control panel consists of just a dial. The dual filter and double thermostat options are also very clear on the control panel. To produce a smooth and balanced cup of espresso, the dial is super-quick to use.

Having said that, the dial on the control panel also serves another purpose in the EC155. Once the espresso starts flowing into your cup, you have to dial “out” to stop the flow. The dial controls the flow without a fuss. Only that you have to figure out, by yourself, the correct method of dialing in/out espresso for the first time.

Steam Wand

The frothing bit on a budget-friendly, entry-level espresso machine like the EC155 and ECP3420 is never as superior as those high-end barista-grade machines. But that doesn’t mean you can tweak a few things here and there to froth milk for cappuccinos and lattes!

The frothing device on the EC155 is placed on the left side of the portafilter. It’s easy and foolproof to use. The mouth of the steam wand is wide so it covers most of the area of a standard espresso cup.

It may not make the milk really hot so it helps to pre-heat the milk before using the milk to froth the milk. But overall, it’s a basic and useful steam wand for consistent use.

The steam wand on Delonghi ECP3420 is on the opposite side of the portafilter. Somehow, because of its clever design, it feels sturdier and handier to use after pulling espresso.

The mouth of the steam wand is slightly narrower than the EC155. And it doesn’t have the black knob so it takes up even less space over the drip tray. In terms of heating and frothing, it makes a good dense cup of cappuccino that is rich and smooth.

One tip though: do not use it for longer than 10 seconds because then it will produce a cake-like froth. Also preheat the milk because during frothing the milk will drop in temperature.
