Gaggia Cadorna Prestige vs Jura ENA 8: Differences

The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige wins 3 – 2 against the Jura ENA 8 for the authentic barista experience at home. It has a better coffee grinder, is easier to use, and can steam the milk effectively without making a mess.

1. Coffee Quality

The Winner: Gaggia Cadorna Prestige

Temperature Controls

The Jura ENA 8 has a Thermoblock heating system which creates the lightest but hottest foam for coffee and the strongest yet smooth espresso taste.

The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige features a Quick Heat Boiler which is a single boiler made of aluminium and stainless steel. This has a lighter weight than the Jura ENA 8. But it’s also slightly slower, it takes up to 30 to 35 seconds to heat up.

The Quick Heat Boiler works for both espresso and milk temperatures. It sets the milk to the optimal steaming temperature of around 125-135-degrees Fahrenheit. It’s good and consistent but lacks speed which is what the Jura ENA 8 offers with its impressive Thermo technology.

Coffee Grinder

The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige comes with a flat ceramic burr grinder and 10 grind levels. The Jura ENA 8 has a stainless steel conical burr grinder with 10 levels.

Between ceramic and steel, ceramic manually grinds the coffee without damage. So the degree to which there will be wear and tear with a ceramic grinder is less.

More importantly, ceramic burr grinders are also good at handling more types of espresso roasts – light, medium, and dark (also oily beans) than steel. If you look at a manual or automatic steel conical grinder, they are traditionally more favoured in commercial barista-grade machines.

Steel blades do eventually lose their edge after a while. But, having said that, a brand-new stainless-steel grinder blade will be much sharper than a ceramic. But only at first. So the precision with which a steel burr grinder will cut is higher during the beginning stages. This encourages uniformity in your grind until the steel blades start losing their sharpness.

 2. Dose Control

The Winner: Jura ENA 8

Jura ENA 8 Dose Control

The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige can make 14 programmable coffee drinks at the touch of a button. The Jura ENA 8, on the other hand, can make only 10 coffees. This still includes the classics such as latte, cappuccino, flat white, latte macchiato. But it’s missing the more barista-style drinks such as the Café Au Lait.

For a more adventurous coffee drinker, the higher number of drinks in the Gaggia would suit you. The bright TFT display makes navigation easier and faster.

The brewing functions of the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige are great but not as intuitive as the Jura. The Gaggia has 14 programmable coffee drinks, 4 user profiles, and an adjustable aroma setting. The aroma setting lets you choose the volume per cup based on how strong you want your coffee to be. So you can adjust not only the brew strength but the volume and temperature of the coffee/milk as well.

With the Jura ENA 8, you have more advanced controls. You can brew from a Ristretto that is 0.5 ounces of coffee to a Long Coffee option (8 ounces) up to 10 ounces of hot water.

Pre-infusion plus the AromaG3 grinder and PEP ensure smooth and balanced coffee extraction. This yields a more nuanced flavour of espresso when you factor in Jura’s 3 temperature levels and 10 brew strength levels.

 3. Milk System

The Winner: Gaggia Cadorna Prestige

Gaggia Cadorna Prestige Milk System
Gaggia Cadorna Prestige Milk System

The milk frothing power of the Gaggia is way more versatile than the Jura ENA 8. This is because the Gaggia features a fully automatic milk frother and a carafe to do its bidding. This takes care of storage, maintenance, and pouring. Creating less of a mess on the countertop than your standard espresso machine.

It delivers the right amount of milk and foam based on the beverage you select. And yes, the Gaggia is intelligent enough to steam milk different for each coffee drink you select. This personalizes the milk quality for you while also offering a unique flavour of milk for every drink you make.

The Jura ENA 8 comes with an automatic milk frother but no carafe. It is a touch and go type of milk system that automatically rinses the inner components after use. The milk spout sits right next to the coffee spout. So you don’t need to move the cup around on the drip tray too much.

The cappuccino frother gives you the perfect foam for a latte, cappuccino, flat white, and macchiato. But I’ve found that it’s more foamy than creamy. So that might take some getting used to.

 4. Cleaning & Water Filtration

The Winner: Jura ENA 8

Jura ENA 8 Water Filtration

You can remove the brew group of the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige to clean it properly from the inside. All the significant parts of the machine quickly disassemble to clean. Compared with the Jura ENA 8, you will be spending less money to buy all the right accessories and cleaning tools on the Gaggia.

You can remove the carafe on the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige, making it easier to clean and maintain in the long run. Additional features include automatic shut-off, descaling, and removable parts. The carafe also doubles as a water jug to quickly heat up water for making tea.

The Jura ENA 8 comes with auto-off mode and an energy-saving Zero-Energy switch. What this does is ensure that the machine does not exhaust its power even if the switch is turned on. Leading to less consumption of power to prevent overheating or overloading.

Jura also comes with CLEARYL smart water filters that prevent descaling and keep the water clean and metal-free. The ENA 8’s drip tray is sturdy and doesn’t need daily emptying.

The cleaning tablets and other important cleaning accessories need to be purchased separately and they cost more money than the Gaggia. But the cleaning tablets make maintenance simpler and faster. Just drop one tablet where the pre-ground coffee goes, the by-pass doser, and the machine takes care of the rest.

Quick cleaning alerts, removable parts, and descaling programs – the Jura ENA 8 offers everything. But its milk system is not that simple to clean. You have to clean the milk system or else it will stop working. And it won’t heat up the milk as effectively as you’d hope, so don’t avoid cleaning the milk system regularly.

 5. Convenience

The Winner: Gaggia Cadorna Prestige

Number of Cups

Imagine how simple life would be when you can make two cups of espresso at a time. Now the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige lets you do that quickly and consistently.

This means the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige doubles the volume of both the grind and brew for two people.

The Jura ENA 8 does not which is a bit of a letdown.

Adjustable Cup Height

The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige, despite the milk carafe and spout, has a taller cup height of 6.1 inches. Meanwhile, the Jura ENA 8 offers a cup clearance of between 2 to 5 inches. It’s still high but not as tall as the Gaggia.

Used Coffee Pucks

While both machines offer used coffee pucks storage, their capacities are slightly different. So the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige holds to 10 used coffee pucks. And capacity of the Jura ENA 8 is not mentioned.

Gaggia Cadorna Prestige vs Jura ENA 8: Similarities

Both the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige and Jura ENA 8 are a bean to cup machines with pre-programmable drinks and a built-in burr grinder. They share some similarities in that they also allow pre-ground coffee which is great if you like to have decaf coffee. There isn’t much of a difference between the 2 machines and the slight difference in their capacities doesn’t impact performance!

Considering their differences, however, you can easily make a choice between the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige vs Jura ENA 8.
