With the DeLonghi Dinamica Plus vs Jura ENA 8, you’re getting the best of what super-automatic espresso machines can do. The debate is between user-friendly and faster brewing performance. Overall though, there are many things you’ll love about either of the two. I promise you’ll get better at making classic and speciality coffee drinks in no time.

But here’s the catch!

You should expect some more updated features with the DeLonghi Dinamica Plus such as more customizable drinks and better milk frothing.

The Jura ENA 8 features a more compact, user-friendly design with quicker brewing speed and great espresso taste. Its water filtration and bean grinding mechanism are also quite intuitive.

DeLonghi Dinamica Plus vs Jura ENA 8: Differences

The DeLonghi Dinamica Plus is a sturdy and premium-grade super-automatic espresso machine – plus app compatibility. The Jura ENA 8 is a more portable option with speedy one-touch features that you can make the most of. Based on that evaluation, the score is a tie between the DeLonghi Dinamica Plus vs Jura EN8 with 3 – 3.

Coffee Flavour

Winner: DeLonghi Dinamica Plus

BUILT-IN GRINDER

Both have a built-in stainless steel conical burr grinder, allowing you to brew espresso with fresh ground beans immediately rather than using a separate grinder. Instead of chopping beans like blade grinders, this grinder crushes them, resulting in a more uniform grind size.

Choosing the right grind size is, no doubt, essential for brewing high-quality caffeinated beverages.  While the Jura ENA 8 has 7 grind adjustment settings, the DeLonghi Dinamica Plus takes the lead with 13 settings. This means the latter provides a broader range of options for dialing in the perfect grind size to achieve the best results with various coffee beans and brewing preferences.

DeLonghi Dinamica Plus vs Jura ENA 8’s grind settings

Keep in mind that you should only tweak the grind size when the grinder is operational to prevent jamming, much in the same way that you’d only switch gears on a bicycle when it’s in motion. Also, avoid using oily coffee beans since oily buildup can potentially impact the machine’s performance and even lead to damage.

HEATING SYSTEM

They only have a single thermoblock heating system, so they can only brew coffee and steam milk separately. But that might not be a significant concern for home users, as thermoblock technology heats water rapidly, ensuring you don’t experience long waits between these processes.

Unlike traditional boilers, which heat a large amount of water, the thermoblock system heats just the right amount required for each function. That way, it can reach the ideal temperature to brew coffee or froth milk in just a matter of seconds. Also, this system is more energy-efficient, and your espresso will never be brewed with stale water, which negatively affects the flavor and quality of your espresso.

The thermoblock fast-heating system is great. But if you’re after a bean-to-cup machine for your workplace or any larger setting, a dual boiler machine would be your best bet. Both Jura and DeLonghi offer these types of machines, but the latter brand offers more affordable options, such as the Delonghi Eletta.

Do you hate when your freshly brewed coffee cools down before you’ve even added the frothy milk? The DeLonghi Dinamica Plus cleverly counters this with a built-in warming tray on top for up to two large cups. It’s just warm and not really hot, but it’s enough to keep your espresso piping hot and at the optimum temperature while frothing milk. The Jura ENA 8 doesn’t have this nifty function, but the Italian brand sells separately the cup warming unit, which looks like a miniature refrigerator.

BREWING SYSTEM

Both of these machines have a pre-infusion function, which is very common, even considered standard in the realm of semi- or super-automatic espresso machines. It basically pre-soaks the coffee grounds briefly in hot water before brewing. Jura even uses the term “Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System (I.P.B.A.S.)” to refer to their pre-infusion process, possibly as a branding tool.

But why is it important? By ensuring all coffee grounds are evenly wetted, it reduces the chances of channeling, which can lead to over-extraction in some parts and under-extraction in others. Also, this stage makes the grounds bloom (or release carbon dioxide), enabling better extraction of flavor and aroma. This results in a richer and more nuanced shot of espresso.

After pre-infusion, the DeLonghi Dinamica Plus vs Jura ENA 8 extract coffee at a pressure of 19 and 15 bars, respectively. For those who don’t know, 9 bars of pressure are the minimum for espresso extraction to pull out the best flavors and oils from the coffee grounds. Both machines exceed this standard, so they can always brew espresso properly.

However, the Jura ENA 8 stands out with Jura’s patented extraction process called P.E.P. (Pulse Extraction Process). Instead of a constant water flow, this one pushes hot water through the grounds in rapid bursts (or pulses, as Jura calls them) to achieve a full flavor profile in optimal extraction time. It is no exaggeration to say that this is the most amazing extraction technology available today.

During my hands-on test, the Jura ENA 8 produced a fuller-bodied and more aromatic shot of espresso. Likewise, the Dinamica Plus could pull delightful espresso topped with a thick crema layer, but it was too hot to enjoy immediately.

MILK-FROTHING SYSTEM

Both facilitate brewing drinks with milk foam with one touch with their automatic milk-frothing systems. So, even if your barista skills are non-existent, you can still effortlessly craft a sumptuous, creamy cappuccino from your own kitchen.

DeLonghi Dinamica Plus vs Jura ENA 8’s milk frothing systems

The LatteCrema milk frothing system of the Dinamica Plus is one of its biggest selling points. It’s basically a thick plastic milk carafe that is attached to the front of the machine whenever you want to prepare a milky drink. Then the machine will automatically prompt you to choose your desired drink and customize the milk froth by turning a dial on top of the milk jug (none, minimum, or maximum froth). You can also fine-tune the amount of milk via the display.

manual dial on top of the milk carafe
Manual dial on top of the milk carafe

Once you’ve finished using it, the removable jug can be stored in your fridge to keep the milk chilled and fresh. Every couple of days, you should rinse it under running water or toss it into the dishwasher for a more thorough cleaning.

As for the Jura ENA 8, setting up its milk system is also a breeze: simply connect the included milk tube to the dual spout and put the other end in a milk container. But unlike the DeLonghi Dinamica Plus, this one doesn’t come with a milk holder. So you’re left with a choice: either invest in Jura’s milk glass container or milk cooler (available for separate purchase) to seamlessly match the machine’s aesthetic or use a container of your own.

Honestly,  I didn’t like the ENA 8’s milk system so much. Firstly, the setup requires connecting the milk carafe with the machine via the tube – it’s not really time-consuming but definitely less straightforward than the simplicity of attaching a container to the DeLonghi Dinamica Plus’s left front. The milk carafe takes up a little extra space, increasing the machine’s actual footprint. Additionally, you can also tweak the amount of milk froth and not its consistency or temperature.

Ultimately, isn’t the quality of milk foam what truly matters? Both machines delivered a creamy, rich foam, perfect for a delightful cappuccino. However, they failed to produce the precise microfoam needed for an impeccable flat white. Since they automatically dispense milk, they can’t make latte art, of course – you will need a wand-equipped machine for that artful endeavor.

DIMENSIONS, FOOTPRINT, & WEIGHT

DeLonghi Dinamica PlusJura ENA 8
Dimensions9.3 x 14 x 17 inches10.7 x 12.7 x 17.5 inches
Weight20.9 lbs20.7 lbs

The Jura ENA 8 is a stunning and luxurious bean-to-cup machine with a crystal-carafe-inspired water tank. This one doesn’t have a modern or sci-fi design like the rest of the Jura lineup, but it certainly won’t look out of place in any modern kitchen. This one is available in three colors to choose from, including Metropolitan Black, Massive Aluminum, and Sunset Red.  As always, Jura has a knack for giving ordinary things flamboyant names.

The DeLonghi Dinamica Plus is also a good-looking kitchen appliance. Like its siblings, there is too much plastic in its construction, but strangely, it doesn’t feel flimsy at all. Some steel or chrome does a great job of ensuring it feels premium yet remains wallet-friendly.

When it comes to the control panel, the DeLonghi Dinamica Plus keeps up with the smartphone-dominated age with an intuitive 3.5-inch touchscreen, while the Jura ENA 8 has a color TFT display. I might be swimming against the tide here, but the latter wins my heart – no fingerprint is left on the screen.

Ultimately, they lean toward the smaller end of the size spectrum. and will doesn’t look bulky or oversized on your kitchen counter. But if you plan to put the machine under low kitchen cabinets, take precise measurements to ensure you still have enough clearance above to load the large bean hopper. Their heft might give you a workout during the unboxing and setup process.

Despite being designed with home use in mind, These units, especially the DeLonghi Dinamica Plus, can still turn your beloved kitchen into a self-service bar with their long lists of preset beverages. Both even have a bypass chute for the use of pre-ground coffee whenever you forget to replenish your bean stock. Fancy a hot tea? Their hot water function might just make your old kettle obsolete.

I was intrigued by the Dinamica Plus’s Truebrew Over Ice feature, especially since I spotted it in the pricier Jura Z10. However, it’s important to clarify that it doesn’t really brew cold espresso. Instead, it infuses and extracts espresso at a lower temperature, resulting in a beverage at room temperature.

truebrew over ice
TrueBrew Over Ice

Another interesting option of the Dinamica Plus is the “Coffee Pot,” which involves brewing up to six cups of espresso in one go. But you will need to purchase a DeLonghi pot separately or one of your own. People who like to share their caffeine preferences with colleagues will surely love this feature. My only gripe is that there is no way to keep espresso hot for long, and it is too watery.

Of course, you can play around with some settings to personalize your drink. Both allow you to adjust the aroma strength, brewing temperature, amount of milk froth, and shot length. As mentioned above, the Dinamica Plus also allows you to change the texture of milk froth from none to maximum. The thing is, they use bean icons to depict coffee strength – it would be better if they showed exactly how much coffee ground quantity is used.

When the dust has settled and you’ve found some recipes that suit your taste, the Dinamica Plus offers four user profiles so no one can accidentally change or modify them. The Jura ENA 8 lacks this nifty feature, and it just remembers your preferences until the next alteration.

SPOUT & CUP CLEARANCE

They both allow you to seamlessly move the dispensing spigot assembly up and down to accommodate differently-sized cups. You can easily fit a jumbo-sized glass under the spout to prepare a larger specialty, like a Latte Macchiato, by simply elevating the spout to its highest point. As for espresso preparation, you can move the spout closer to the cup to preserve that rich, thick crema and prevent splashing.

DeLonghi Dinamica Plus vs Jura ENA 8’s dual coffee spouts

The DeLonghi Dinamica Plus can brew two cups of espresso simultaneouslywhile the Jura ENA 8 can’t, as it has a single dispensing spout. Trust me, you’ll only fully appreciate this dual-brew capability when faced with an impatient crowd of coffee aficionados in front of an espresso machine.

WATER RESERVOIR & BEAN HOPPER

DeLonghi Dinamica PlusJura ENA 8
Water Reservoir1.8 liter1.1 liter
Bean Hopper0.37 liter0.13 liter

The Dinamica Plus 1.8-liter tank is enough for home use without frequent filling, while the ENA 8’s cylindrical reservoir is too small. They both are designed for easy detachment, so filling them with fresh water is a piece of cake.

Using clean, high-quality water is, no doubt, the key to having great-tasting coffee, isn’t it? But unless you use bottled or pre-filtered water, yours definitely has unwanted impurities that can cause scale build-up inside the machine. This not only leads to less-than-perfect espresso but also jeopardizes internal components or at least necessitates more regular descaling.

Fortunately, both the DeLonghi Dinamica Plus vs Jura ENA 8 have the option of using a water filter (DeLonghi and Clearyl smart mini water filters, respectively) to prevent this. Of course, you’ll need to earmark a modest budget for the periodic replacement, typically every month or two.

Well, great, their bean feeders both have an airtight cover to ensure that any leftover beans remain shielded from external factors. This allows the beans to retain their robust aroma for an extended period.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Winner: DeLonghi Dinamica Plus

At the end of the day, the longevity of your espresso machine hinges on how well you care for it. Thankfully, cleaning and maintaining these super-automatic machines is as easy and automatic as everything else about them.

If you decide not to use the water filter, you’ll need to descale these machines so often. They will let you know when they need to be descaled and walk you through all the steps via on-screen prompts. The process is largely hands-free, and you must use the cleaning solution specified by the manufacturer.

The DeLonghi Dinamica Plus has my vote here since it has a removable brew group. Unlike the Jura ENA 8’s built-in brew unit that relies on an automated cleaning cycle, the Dinamica Plus requires manual cleaning and lubrication. The brew group is the soul and heart of an espresso machine, so I want to take care of it with my hands, and I believe that is the best way. In addition, it can be easily replaced without the use of any special tools.

Both also auto-rinse their milk system after each preparation of a milk-based drink. The Jura ENA 8 will alert you when you need to run an automatic cycle to deep clean its milk system, which requires the Jura milk cleaner and the included two-chamber container. As for the DeLonghi Dinamica Plus, it is best to rinse its milk pitcher under the tap every 2-3 days.

REMOTE CONTROL

Brewing espresso from your bedroom? This might be among the wildest dreams about a decade or two ago. Yet, with the advent of super-automatic machines like both the DeLonghi Dinamica Plus Vs Jura ENA 8, this fantasy can now be realized.

Right from your smartphone or even Apple watch, you can prepare your favorite drinks, make changes to the settings if necessary with the Jura ENA 8 (via the JOE app), and just leave your bed or sofa to collect yours once it’s ready. At the time of writing, you need to purchase the Jura smart connect separately to use this function.

As for DeLonghi Dinamica Plus, you can also brew espresso from a distance via the DeLonghi Coffee Link app, but crafting a milk-based drink still entails you to step out of bed to physically connect the milk pitcher to the machine.

AUTO OFF

Both have an automatic switch-off mode which, when turned on, turns the machine off automatically after an adjustable interval, starting from 15 minutes. The Jura ENA 8 features a dedicated Energy-saving mode, which takes energy efficiency a step further.
