The Jura ENA 8 vs S8 debate lets you factor in the cost, design, and features of 2 really smart and fast super-automatic espresso machines. But which is better?

The Jura S8 costs more because it features a touchscreen display, a Fine Foam G2 frother, and a faster brewing time. The Jura ENA 8 is more entry-level but even coffee purists appreciate its PEP brewing technology and quiet Aroma G3 grinder.

Both these features are also present in the Jura S8. The S8 is a complete package; it has everything the ENA 8 has. But the ENA 8 doesn’t that is why it pales in comparison to the S8.

What you need to do is to evaluate which feature/benefit is most helpful for you. What follows next should help you decide sooner.

Jura ENA 8 vs S8: Differences

The Jura S8 gets more points (3 – 2) than the ENA 8 as it can brew 2 cups of coffee at a time, it has a touchscreen display, and a faster, more efficient automatic frother. The Jura ENA 8 is a smart and well-designed machine perfect for solo espresso drinkers.

1. Dose Control

The Winner: Jura S8

+Pre-Programmed Coffee Drinks

The coffee menu on the ENA 8 is favourable for espresso drinkers. It offers 10 espresso drinks at the touch of a button. These include drinks like creamy cappuccino, latte macchiato, and flat white. It also includes more classic espresso drinks in a variety of sizes – from 0.5 ounces to 6 ounces.

For example, the Ristretto option can make less than 1 ounce of rich espresso at the press of a single button. The Coffee option is a longer extraction that produces between 4 to 6 ounces of coffee at a time.

Coming to the Jura S8, it offers 15 coffee drinks at the touch of a button. Though its longest coffee drink is 5 ounces in serving size. The upshot here is that the Jura S8 allows you to double the volume of espresso as it comes with a dual coffee spout.

The Jura ENA 8 doesn’t as it is a single-serve espresso maker. The ENA 8 can make only a single serving of all the espresso drinks, excluding the Café Latte which is only present in Jura S8.

With Jura S8, you can make a single and double ristretto, espresso, macchiato, coffee, café latte, flat white, cappuccino, and latte macchiato.

+Dosage

The dosage for the ENA 8 which is a single-serve coffee machine is between 6 to 10g of ground coffee powder in a single espresso shot. For the Jura S8, this is from 5 to 16g of ground coffee powder.

Since the Jura S8 features a double brewing capacity as it can make two espresso drinks simultaneously, it comes with a higher dosage amount for a stronger and more aromatic espresso shot. This is good not only for coffee purists but for entertaining as it can make 2 espresso drinks in a time of a single brewing cycle.

2. Milk System

The Winner: Jura S8

The Jura S8 comes with a Fine Foam Frother G2 which is an upgraded model from ENA 8’s standard Fine Foam and Cappuccino Frother. For a super-automatic machine like the S8, you can program the milk foam texture and get faster and smoother milk without worrying about cleaning. It also features a one-touch automatic milk rinse.

The ENA 8’s Fine Foam produces auto-customized milk foam for cappuccino, flat white, latte macchiato. You cannot customize the milk foam. Also, it does not include the automatic milk rinse system.

But you can choose whether you want hot milk with a layer of foam or not in both machines. This is the portion milk foam setting to create frothy barista drinks with the espresso of your choice.

3. Cleaning & Maintenance

The Winner: Jura ENA 8

+Size

Jura ENA 8 measures 10.7 x 17.5 x 12.7 inches and the Jura S8 measures 11 x 17.3 x 13.8 inches. While the depth of both espresso machines is the same, what’s different is that the Jura S8 is taller and broader than the ENA 8.

This is because the S8 comes with a 1.8L water tank, a 10-ounce bean hopper, and a 16 pucks coffee grounds container for used coffee powder. The Jura ENA 8 is a perfectly convenient and compatible espresso maker for daily use considering that it has a 1L water reservoir and a 4.4-ounce bean hopper. Additionally, it stores up to 10 used coffee pucks at a time.

Now, for a single shot of espresso, you generally use about 6 to 8 grams of ground coffee powder. And 4.4 ounces is a little more than half a cup of coffee beans. And 1 fluid ounce of coffee beans makes 1 ounce of espresso.

So in a bean hopper that stores around 4.4 ounces of coffee beans, you can make up to 9 shots of espresso easily. With the Jura S8, you can double that amount but it has a taller size which may or may not fit on your kitchen counter.

This gives the Jura ENA 8 an edge over S8. Making 8-9 espressos per refill is a comfortable range for home espresso drinkers. The 1L water tank is supportive of that quantity as well.

4. Utilities

The Winner: It’s A Tie!

+Cup Height Adjustment

The cup clearance of the Jura ENA 8 is from 2.2 to 5.4 inches. This is designed to allow taller mugs/glasses to fit under the spout. For longer coffees, you won’t have to transfer the espresso from a short cup to a tall one. You can directly brew coffee in your favorite mug, probably even a travel mug if you’re in a hurry.

The Jura S8 has a slightly narrower cup clearance but it is wider since you can place two espresso cups next to each other. It starts from 2.8 inches to 4.6 inches in height. The width is compatible with two espresso cups placed side-by-side under each spout.

+Interface

The most notable difference between the Jura ENA 8 and S8 is their control panel. How you can access coffee functions makes a huge dent in how advanced a machine is. And the Jura S8 certainly looks more advanced than the ENA 8.

It has a wider touchscreen display that makes it easier to access. The ENA 8’s is narrow that can display only two drinks at a time alongside the buttons. The S8 presents at least 8 drinks on the screen that you can tap and customize using the touchscreen display. So there is no buttons on the S8, so it’s sleeker and more modern than ENA 8.

Jura ENA 8 vs S8: Similarities

1. Brewing Coffee

Features that improve the flavor of espressos such as the Aroma G3 grinder, 15 bar pump, pulse brewing system, and Thermoblock are present in both espresso makers. These features make an excellent pair for brewing a variety of espresso, the likes of which both the Jura ENA 8 vs S8 offer to its users.

Both machines are consistent and brew an extremely delicious cup of espresso after grinding coffee beans. Speaking of grinding, they also include a by-pass doser for ground coffee for the days you’ve run out of coffee beans to add to the hopper.

2. Coffee Programmability

The Jura ENA 8 and S8 allow you to customize the volume, strength, and brewing temperature of espresso in two ways: the control panel and the smart connect app that lets you use your phone/tablet to access the espresso machine.

You can adjust the coffee’s strength in 10 pre-set levels, the brewing temperature, and the hot water temperature for hot tea, chocolate, and Americano.

3. Energy Efficiency

You will really appreciate the automatic shut-off, low-energy mode, and cleaning alerts on both machines that keep them going. They also feature certain rinsing and cleaning modes that prevent frequent descaling on your part. And ensure that you don’t have to time a lot of time trying to unclog the internal parts of the machine, especially the brew unit.

So you don’t need to do a lot of heavy work to keep the Jura ENA 8 or the S8 clean and durable for long-term use. It has built-in features that let you know what’s to be done next.
