I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

Espresso makers are everywhere but not all them compare to the Jura E8 vs ENA 8 for home brewers. The craze of brewing espresso at home started when companies like Jura decided to simplify the espresso-making process for coffee lovers who didn’t know how to use a semi-automatic/manual machine.

And the Jura E8 and ENA 8 are proofs of how simple to operate, consistent, and user-friendly espresso makers can be. But which is better?

The Jura E8 wins because it produces more coffee, in different ways, and makes sure the machine stays clean, clog-free, and ready to brew for the next cup! It also has faster heating, programmable milk frothing, and a spacious and comfortable design.

But if you’re looking for something more budget-friendly, the Jura ENA 8 is not a bad choice. It has P.E.P. and an automatic milk frother for producing cappuccino or strong espresso at the touch of a button.

Jura E8 vs ENA 8: Differences

The Jura E8 wins 5 – 2 against the Jura ENA 8. Though the Jura E8 is more expensive, it offers more value, consistency, and user-friendliness than the ENA 8. It brews more coffees, has a larger but not bulky water tank/bean hopper, and it can brew two coffees at a time.

1. Espresso Taste

The Winner: It’s A Tie!

Jura E8 Espresso Taste
Jura E8 Espresso Taste

The Jura ENA 8 is better equipped at handling rich and delicious espresso drinks. And with the E8 you have more specific brewing advantages such as intelligent preheating that the ENA 8 does not have.

The features responsible for such striking performances and brewing consistency are…

Coffee Grinder

The first point of difference between the E8 and ENA 8 is the Aroma coffee grinder. The ENA 8 features the Aroma G3 grinder which is faster, quieter, and more energy-efficient than the E8’s which is the Aroma grinder.

The ENA 8 uses an improved model of the Aroma grinder. The Aroma G3 is a far superior grinder with a wider design and sharper blades that cover more area inside the grinder.

The coffee grinder results in much finer, smoother ground coffee with less ground residue after grinding. Also, the Aroma G3 grinder is 2x times faster than the Aroma without making a sound. The ENA 8 features 6 grind settings, the grind settings on the E8 are not specified.

Brewing Technology

Here is also where the Jura ENA 8 performs better than the E8. While both espresso makers feature Pulse Extraction Process which is the ideal JURA Standard for brewing rich and delicious espresso at home. The ENA 8 includes another exciting feature, the Pre-Brew Aroma System that increases the shot-pulling potential of the ENA 8.

So the One-Touch brewing function and overall espresso production on the ENA 8 is more fine-tuned and works without losing quality than the E8 which features basic brewing functions.

Temperature Control

While both espresso makers feature the Thermoblock heating element, the E8 comes with a specific temperature control advantage that’s missing in the ENA 8. That is the Intelligent Preheating feature that makes the very first cup of coffee piping hot.

And it reduces the waiting time which is slightly longer (if only by a few seconds) in the ENA 8.

2. Dose Control

The Winner: Jura E8

Coffee Drinks

While the Jura ENA 8 comes with a better grinder and one more brewing feature than the E8, the E8 has more coffee specialties to offer to its user.

The E8 offers espresso, coffee, cappuccino, café barista, lungo barista, doppio, macchiato, cortado, latte macchiato, flat white, and double shots for every drink mentioned.

The ENA 8, on the other hand, features a ristretto, espresso, coffee, cappuccino, espresso doppio, macchiato, latte macchiato, and flat white.

The E8 offers a double volume of most of its espresso drinks, especially espresso, coffee, cappuccino, latter macchiato, and flat white. These are extra shots that the machine has a built-in, pre-programmed setting for.

Unlike the E8, to brew a double cappuccino, you have to make espresso first in a stronger and higher concentration and then froth the milk for cappuccino. So there is a process involved with the ENA 8 that the E8 takes care of at the touch of a button.

Programmability

There are multiple ways to alter the flavor, intensity, aroma, and volume of coffee using the Jura E8 vs ENA 8. But the E8 lets you program a few extra things than the ENA 8.

This includes:

You can program or change how much milk or milk foam you’d like in your espresso drinks on the E8. It does feature a programmable milk setting which the ENA 8 does not have.

This favours the advantage that the Jura E8 has so many exciting milk coffee drinks for you to try out at the touch of a button. So you can taste a different texture or volume of milk each time you brew a cappuccino or a flat white or a macchiato!

Dosage

Lastly, the dose amount of the Jura E8 is from 5 to 16g per shot. And that of the ENA 8 is between 6 to 10g. Both espresso makers feature a variable brewing unit.

Combined with the 15 bar pump, the E8 doses out the perfect amount of espresso for a strong cup of coffee. The ENA 8 falls a bit short as it doses 10g or less than 10g which may lead to a smaller volume of coffee unless you program the amount of water.

This is also because the E8 supports double-cup brewing which means you can brew two espressos side-by-side. The ENA 8 is a single-spout espresso maker which only serves one cup at a time.

3. Milk System

The Winner: Jura E8

Jura E8 Milk System
Jura E8 Milk System

By its appearance, the milk system on the Jura E8 comes with a separate spout that sits on the corner of the machine. On the Jura ENA 8, the spout is right next to the coffee spout.

Although there is the added convenience that you don’t have to move the cup from under the spout, on the ENA 8, for your espresso drink. On the E8, you need to slide the cup to the edge for the milk to start frothing and pouring into the cup.

Moving forward, the E8’s frother is the Fine Foam Frother G2. And the frothing system on the ENA 8 is the Fine Foam and Cappuccino Frother. It’s automatic while the E8 does allow some adjustability/control over the texture of milk foam.

This also includes the One-Touch automatic milk system cleaning of the Jura E8 that makes the frother always as good as brand new. On the Jura ENA 8, you do need to rinse the system after use to ensure no milk molecules are stuck inside.

4. Cleaning & Maintenance

The Winner: It’s A Tie!

Jura ENA 8 Maintenance
Jura ENA 8 Maintenance

The Jura E8 is equipped with the CLARIS Smart water filter cartridge with an integrated rinsing, cleaning, and descaling mode. The drip tray is also monitored which means that you’ll know when the drip tray is full and needs emptying out.

The Jura ENA 8 has a smaller CLARIS Smart water filter cartridge, the CLARIS Smart mini, and it has the same integrated cleaning system as the Jura E8. However, since the ENA 8 is a single-serve, the water filter is smaller and so is the Jura ENA 8’s size as it features a 1L water tank and a 4.4-ounce bean hopper. The Jura E8’s is much larger at a 1.8L water tank and a 9.8 bean hopper.

The Jura E8 also features an additional cleaning feature for the milk system. It auto rinses the milk system after every use to keep it clean, clog-free, and stain-free. You will need to rinse the milk system after every use on the ENA 8.

5. Utilities

The Winner: Jura E8

Size

The water reservoir in the Jura E8 is located inside the machine. While the water reservoir on the Jura ENA 8 is placed outside, on the side. So the Jura E8’s water tank stays cleaner for longer. But the ENA 8’s water tank is easier to refill because the tank sits outside.

In terms of size, the ENA 8 is more compact with a 1L water reservoir and 4.4-ounce bean hopper. But this does not work in favour of the ENA 8 because both machines have a similar size. So the 1.8L water tank and 9.8-ounce bean hopper of the E8 makes it user-friendly.

The Jura E8 has a 16 coffee grounds container and the ENA 8 has 10 servings. This means you will need to empty out the ENA 8 more often than the E8.

Milk Spout Adjustment

The milk spout, on the Jura E8, is slightly different in that it starts from 4.2 inches to 6 inches. So it accommodates taller glasses/mugs than the ENA 8.

But for the rest of it, they are similar with regards to height and width adjustments.

Jura E8 vs ENA 8: Similarities

1. Customizations

The Jura E8 and ENA 8 have more than a few features in common. Starting with the 15 bar pump system, P.E.P. and Thermoblock heating system. But wait, there’s more…

With the Jura E8 and ENA 8, you can program the coffee strength, volume, and brewing temperature effortlessly. You can customize every drink of the menu, individually, and the machine will alter the flavor and intensity and volume of your coffee based on those variables, not its default ones.

Both machines also feature a programmable hot water dispenser that lets you adjust the temperature of hot water by 3 levels.

All these programmable settings on the Jura E8 and ENA 8 are also very responsive in that they are one-touch functions. This means you don’t need to remember the temperature or strength level in order to be able to set it again the next time.

The interface comes with sliders and plus/minus buttons to help streamline the process of adjusting the parameters.

2. Efficiency / Durability

This refers to 3 features that make the Jura E8 and ENA 8 energy-efficient espresso makers, perfect for durable home use.

Those are the Energy Save Mode, Zero-Energy Switch, and programmable switch-off timer.

The Energy Save Mode consumes less energy even if you’re using the machine. The Zero-Energy Switch turns off the power source even if the machine is turned on if the machine has been idle for a time. And lastly, the programmable switch-off timer turns the machine off after a set time period that you easily configure using the wide and bright LCD display (on both machines).

3. Utilities

Pre-Ground Coffee

Both machines are compatible with ground coffee with a by-pass doser. This makes both espresso makers more convenient to use. And speaking of convenience, the bean hopper has the Aroma Preservation Lid on both machines which keeps coffee beans fresh and ready to grind at a moment’s notice!

Coffee Spout

Even though both machines feature different height adjustability, they are almost the same and that does not favour one machine over the other.

So the Jura E8, the cup clearance is from 2.5 inches to 4.3 inches. And on the Jura ENA 8, the cup clearance is from 2.2 to 5.4 inches. This applies to the coffee spout, cappuccino (milk) spout, and hot water spout on both machines.

Smart App Connect

Last but not the least, the Jura E8 and ENA 8 connect to the JURA app for on-the-go coffee customizations and brewing. That’s right; you can select the drink you want and make your customizations from your smartphone app. So you don’t have to physically walk up to the espresso maker.

Compatible with Smart Connect via Bluetooth, both espresso machines have a few special programming options on the app only. Transforming the basic button control from the interface of the espresso maker to touchscreen operation from your smartphone.
