Comparing the Philips 2200 vs 3200 Lattego, two affordable super-automatic coffee machines, the 3200 Lattego emerges as the better value-for-money choice.
They use the same chassis, brewing unit, and milk frothing system, but the Philips 3200 Lattego has some extra milky drinks and enables you to change the amount of milk froth. If your consumption is mainly confined to regular coffee and espresso, you can save a few bucks with the Philips 2200 Lattego, though.

Philips 2200 Vs 3200 Lattego: Differences
This match ended with a close score of 4-3 in favor of the 3200 version. See, there isn’t a significant difference between the two.
Coffee Flavor & Brewing System
Winner: Tie
Built-in Grinder
I’m a big fan of the ceramic flat burr grinder on both versions. This type of grinder is whisper-quiet and keeps cool during operation, preventing the coffee grounds from burning.
Both offer 12 grind-size settings, which are changed as easy as pushing and turning a knob in the bean feeder. Remember, though, to make these adjustments only while the machine is operating and after you’ve loaded in your coffee beans.
And hey, if you ever find yourself out of coffee beans, don’t worry. Both machines come equipped with a bypass chute for pre-ground coffee, ready to come and save the day.
Heating System
Both versions are equipped with a Thermoblock fast-heating system, reaching the ideal brewing temperature within half a minute. Sure, you’ll need to decide whether to brew your coffee first and then steam milk or the other way around. But you hardly have to wait, and this is not bad at all for a single-boiler machine.
Brewing System
Both have an automatic pre-infusion function and a 15-bar pump, something I always like to see on any super-automatic coffee machine. By soaking the coffee ground before extraction, pre-infusion prevents channeling and sets the stage for the full development of the coffee’s aroma.
Design & Convenience
Winner: Tie
Dimensions & User Interface
Philips 2200 Lattego | Philips 3200 Lattego | |
---|---|---|
Dimensions | 9.7 x 14.6 x 17.1 inches | 9.7 x 14.6 x 17 inches |
Weight | 18.5 lbs | 17.5 lbs |
All the Philips bean-to-cup machines, whether it is 2200 or 3200, are designed on the same chassis and even the same plastic casing. The 2200 is a bit heavier than the 3200, but you wouldn’t even notice it unless you put them on the scale.
Both versions have a solid build and come in black color, but the 3200 has a Glossy Finish while the 2200 features a Matte Finish. Personally, I think the glossy finish of the 3200 will add a more premium touch to your kitchen.
They both use a touch-button pad that features backlighting and some illuminated scale icons, ensuring you can clearly see what you are doing. The 3200 sports a larger control panel with more buttons simply because it has more features than the 2200 version.
Spout Type & Cup Clearance
Philips 2200 Lattego | Philips 3200 Lattego | |
---|---|---|
Spout Type | Dual | Dual |
Cup Clearance | 3.3-6.9 inches | 3.3-6.9 inches |
They use the same height-custom dual spout that can accommodate a variety of latte glasses or travel mugs when going all the way up. If you are using very small espresso cups, the spout can be lowered to prevent sputtering and keep that gorgeous crema layer on your espresso just perfect.
Both can also brew two cups of espresso at the same time, so you and your spouse can get to share precious caffeine-fueled moments together. This is also a lifesaver on chaotic mornings when everyone is in a hurry.
Water Reservoir & Bean Hopper
Philips 2200 Lattego | Philips 3200 Lattego | |
---|---|---|
Water Reservoir | 1.8 liters | 1.8 liters |
Bean Hopper | 0.27 kilogram | 0.27 kilogram |
Both versions also share a water tank and bean feeder. I love how the tank can slide in and out easily from the front, as well as being able to accommodate a water filter, but I would love it more if it had a handle to make it easier to deal with.
Another part that can also be removed is the brew group. That way, you can clean and oil it on your own or even replace it without breaking a sweat over technical stuff.
The coffee bean compartment is quite large. Better yet, it has a seal that keeps the coffee beans’ aroma locked in over time and even tones down the grinding noise. How awesome is that?
Milk Frothing System
Winner: Tie
The brand includes “LatteGo” in these machines’ names for a reason. In fact, both use the LatteGo auto milk frothing system, while other versions of themselves use steam wands.
The only thing I like about this automatic milk system is that it doesn’t consist of any tubes or pipes of its own and includes just two parts that are easily cleaned under the tap.
The design of the milk carafe poses some storage challenges in the refrigerator, and the lid seems insecure as it lacks a mechanism to keep it firmly attached. Furthermore, the distance between the milk dispenser and your cup requires careful positioning – a misplacement could lead to spills on the drip tray or even the counter.
The key limitation of the LatteGo system, in my view, is its inability to effectively texture milk. It aerates the milk only minimally, resulting in just a scant layer of foam. This means it falls short of replicating the quality of a café-style cappuccino or latte. But if you’re not serious about the texture of the milk, you’d still have fun with some “knock-off” milky drinks.
Drink Options & Programmability
Winner: Philips 3200 Lattego
Drink Options
Philips 2200 Lattego | Philips 3200 Lattego |
---|---|
Espresso Coffee Cappuccino Hot Water | Espresso Americano Black Coffee Cappuccino Latte Macchiato Hot Water |
The 2200 offers a total number of 4 one-touch drinks, whereas the 3200 expands this selection to 8. With the 2200, you can only choose single or double servings with Espresso and Coffee, and as for the 3200, you can also do it with Americano besides these two.
Programmability
Adjustable Settings | Philips 2200 Lattego | Philips 3200 Lattego |
---|---|---|
Coffee Strength | Yes | Yes |
Coffee Temperature | Yes | Yes |
Milk Foam Temperature | No | No |
Milk Foam Texture | No | No |
Both models offer the ability to adjust coffee intensity across three levels – Selecting the highest level prompts the built-in grinder to crush more beans and vice versa. You can also customize the volume of the coffee.
The key distinction between the two models lies in the customization of milk froth. The 3200 allows for fine-tuning the amount of froth in three levels, so if you love having a cappuccino or latte macchiato with more or less milk foam, you can push the button to change it accordingly.
