There are many questions that many people have asked themselves, such as “What sparked the formation of the universe ?” “What constitutes the meaning of life?”  And … “What’s the difference between the Delonghi Dinamica Plus vs Philips 3200 Lattego?” All right, I didn’t need to be an astronomer or a quantum physicist to answer the last one, and I will help you clarify this.

My comparison below will help you better understand the differences between these machines. But the Delonghi Dinamica Plus is the winner since it can brew better espresso, has a better milk steam system, offers a longer menu of one-touch drinks, and has many other features, such as user profiles and app compatibility. Meanwhile, the Philips 3200 Lattego comes with a more wallet-friendly tag.

Delonghi Dinamica Plus Vs Philips 3200 Lattego: Differences

The Dinamica Plus had a strong 4-1 win over the 3200 Lattego, justifying its significantly higher price tag. Keep reading to see more!

Coffee Flavor & Brewing System

Winner: Delonghi Dinamica Plus

Built-in Grinder

Philips LatteGo comes with a ceramic flat burr grinder, which is rare at this budget level, while the Dinamica Plus features a stainless steel conical burr grinder. I’d say each has its own advantages. The ceramic flat grinder generates less heat, preserving the coffee beans’ flavor and aroma. The stainless steel conical grinder is more effective in providing consistent and uniform grinding because of its conical design.

The 3200 Lattego, with 12 grind sizes, definitely outperforms other machines, at least at its price point. Meanwhile, the Dinamica Plus has 13 grind settings, and of course, 12 is less than 13. You can adjust the grind sizes to your liking easily by turning a knob but only do so while the grinder is running.

Heating System

Speaking of the number of boilers, both have a single boiler with fast-heating thermoblock technology. They can’t brew coffee and steam milk at once. But the thermoblock system can heat water so fast that there’s almost no pause between pouring espresso and frothing milk, so I had no problem with this. I just wondered, “Why does the Dinamica base version boast two thermoblocks, in contrast to the solitary thermoblock in the Plus version?”

Brewing System

These machines basically have the same espresso brewing process, actually. They first moisten the coffee grounds with a little hot water at low pressure for a short time, called pre-infusion. This step allows the coffee grounds to swell and expand, helping to evenly saturate the coffee and ensuring that the water, when it comes through at full pressure, extracts the coffee flavors uniformly.

Then, the main brewing process will take place at maximum pressure (the 3200 Lattego has a 15-bar pump compared to the Dinamica Plus’s 19-bar pump) to take care of this. In case you don’t know, the standard for a quality espresso shot is usually at least around 9 bars. So these machines definitely create more pressure than is needed for a top-notch espresso shot.

So they should theoretically create equally delicious espresso, but the 3200 Lattego really extracts pretty weak shots. This issue stems from its filter basket’s larger holes, which facilitate water passage too quickly, resulting in a watery espresso. Normally, filter baskets have smaller holes, ensuring adequate resistance for full extraction of the coffee oils that impart that rich shot.

Design & Convenience

Let’s talk a little about their appearance. I know many people might overlook or disregard this aspect, as, after all, we only care about how well our machine makes delicious coffee. But the kitchen is a key area of your home, and would you really want to compromise its aesthetic with an unappealing coffee machine?

You’d likely nod in agreement when I say the Dinamica Plus outshines the 3200 Lattego in the appearance aspect. The Dinamica Plus is indeed like a gadget from Iron Man with a sleek touchscreen, crafting something sci-fi rather than coffee. Meanwhile, the 3200 Lattego looks quite cheap despite its similar plastic construction.

Spout Type & Cup Clearance

Cup Clearance3.5-5.5 inches3.3–6.9 inches

Both have double espresso spouts to brew two shots at once. The 3200 Lattego has a wider cup clearance, allowing it to accommodate a diverse range of cup sizes, including tall glasses or travel mugs.

Water Reservoir & Bean Hopper

Water Reservoir1.8 liter1.8 liter
Bean Hopper0.37 liter0.28 liter

One nice thing about their water tanks, in addition to their generous size, is that they are accessible from the front. So you can easily slide out the tank to fill or clean without having to shift the machine or awkwardly reach behind it. You also have the option of using water filters with their tanks to ensure a reduction in impurities and enhance the overall quality of your brew if you are using tap water.

Their hoppers are likely nestled under the shadow of your cabinets, but that shouldn’t be much of an issue since they are quite large and accessible. In fact, they occupy over half of the machine’s upper surface area. Simply lift off the lid, and you can effortlessly add beans from any angle. Oh, by the way, both have an airtight lid to preserve the aroma of the beans.

Milk Frothing System

Winner: Delonghi Dinamica Plus

One of the selling points of these machines is their automatic frothing systems, which allow you to make milky drinks like a cappuccino or a latte with just a simple touch of a button – nothing more, nothing less.

both have an automatic milk system
Both have an automatic milk system

Both include a milk jug (they don’t need to be bought separately, thank goodness), which is attached to the front of the machine and can be stored in the refrigerator when not in use. Once you have made your choice, the machine will froth the milk automatically, and then the milk foam will be poured straight into your cup.

The 3200 Lattego milk system is called LatteGo, as its name suggests, distinguishing it from the Philips 3200 with a steam wand. It doesn’t excel at creating the perfect milk texture, but for those who aren’t overly particular about milk texture or taste, it still manages to produce decent milky beverages.

Another con of the LatteGo system is that its milk spout might be too high compared to your cup, which is a big deal if you are preparing a smaller drink like a cappuccino. This can cause the milk to splash on its way into the cup. In addition, its cover feels somewhat fragile and feels like it could fall off at any time.

The Dinamica Plus’s LatteCrema milk system includes a larger and firmer milk jug with a knob for adjusting the froth texture. This one also can’t texture milk as well as a manual steam wand (and your hard-earned skills) and can’t produce perfect microfoam for flat white and latte art. Rather, it just whips up thick, smooth milk, ideal for cafe-quality cappuccinos.

The 3200 Lattego offers several coffee specialties, whereas the Dinamica Plus has a longer list. In addition to popular things, the Dinamica Plus has a strange-sounding cold brew feature that extracts espresso at room temperature, perfect for pairing with ice cubes or whiskey stones for a refreshing twist. Additionally, it also has a coffee pot option, allowing users to brew six cups of coffee in one go.

Both machines offer the flexibility to customize your coffee experience, with five levels of coffee strength, adjustable water volume for extraction, and control over the brew temperature. The 3200 Lattego’s customization stops at adjusting the volume of milk foam, while the Dinamica Plus steps up the game by not only allowing you to select the quantity of milk foam but also the temperature and density of the foam.

Other Features

Winner: Delonghi Dinamica Plus

User Profile

The Dinamica Plus has three user profiles and one guest profile to remember exactly how you and others like your drinks. This feature enables you to save my favorite coffee recipes, like the exact amount of milk, coffee strength, and temperature you prefer. It’s like the machine gets to know you personally. This is perfect for days when you’re in a hurry and don’t want to fiddle with settings.

The user profile

What’s more, if you aren’t the only coffee drinker at home, each person can set up their profile. So your strong espresso doesn’t get mixed up with someone else’s light latte, for example. It’s a game-changer for households with multiple coffee preferences, but there might not be enough profiles for offices.

App Connectivity

It can be said that Jura has initiated the movement of controlling espresso machines remotely, and Delonghi is one of its most successful adopters. You don’t even need to buy any connectors to use this feature on the Dinamica Plus.

With the DeLonghi Coffee Link app, you can sit on the sofa and adjust your espresso strength or milk foam density for your next cup without moving an inch. Just ensure there are cups under the dispensing spigot and have the milk jug attached to the machine if you want to make a cappuccino or something.

Plus, the app gives you tips and tricks for creating different drinks, so it’s perfect for experimenting and trying out new recipes. When it’s time for maintenance, the app also reminds you and provides convenient, easy-to-follow instructions right at your fingertips.

Delonghi Dinamica Plus Vs Philips 3200 Lattego: Similarities

Bypass Doser

Nothing can beat a cup of espresso made from fresh ground beans, right? But both also have a bypass chute, allowing you to dabble in different bean varieties or conveniently switch to pre-ground coffee occasionally.

Cup Warmer

Ah, there is a built-in cup warmer on top of both that gently heats the cups, ensuring that the first sip and the last are equally warm and satisfying. There’s nothing more disappointing than a cup of coffee that cools down too quickly. So when you pour coffee into a pre-warmed cup, it keeps the coffee at the ideal temperature for longer.
