Delonghi Dinamica Plus Vs Dinamica: Which One Should You Buy?

I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

The Delonghi Dinamica Plus vs Dinamica share a bunch of features, but the Plus version comes with a heftier price tag. In my opinion, the plus version is worth it, and I highly recommend it if you can comfortably stretch your budget.

At the heart of their differences is that the Delonghi Dinamica Plus has an interactive touch screen, can be controlled remotely, and offers four user profiles for personalized settings. Meanwhile, the Delonghi Dinamica‘s singular advantage is its dual-boiler system, which allows for the simultaneous preparation of espresso and milk.

Delonghi Dinamica Plus Vs Dinamica: Differences

The Dinamica Plus wins 4-3 against the Dinamica. For the rest of the post, we are going to look closer at the differences and similarities between the two models.

Heating System

Winner: Delonghi Dinamica

It sounds ridiculous, but the Dinamica indeed has two fast-heating thermoblocks, whereas the Dinamica Plus has only one. Not only does the dual boiler heating system allow the Dinamica to brew espresso and steam milk foam simultaneously, but it also helps the machine maintain a consistent temperature.

The thermoblock boiler itself is a big plus since it can heat water quickly. It ensures the machine is ready to brew coffee or steam milk in a much shorter time compared to ones with traditional boiler systems, which is especially convenient for users who are often in a hurry or don’t want to wait long for their coffee.

Brewing System

Winner: Tie

The Delonghi Dinamica brews espresso at 15 bars of pressure, while the Dinamica Plus operates at a higher pressure of 19 bars. There is a significant difference here, but they are both sufficient to pull a rich and flavorful shot, which only requires a standard pressure of 9 bars.

By the way, both pre-soak the coffee grounds in hot water before the full extraction process begins, called pre-infusion. This short step allows the grounds to swell and release carbon dioxide, leading to a more even and thorough extraction. It can also help in reducing bitterness and acidity that might occur due to over-extraction or channeling.

Dimensions & User Interface

Winner: Delonghi Dinamica Plus

Weight20.9 lbs20.8 lbs

Design-wise, these machines are nearly identical twins. They both sport a sleek, glossy exterior and even though they are primarily constructed of plastic, they still feel and look sturdy.

The key difference lies in their interfaces: the Dinamica features a button-operated LCD screen compared to a touch screen on the top front of the Dinamica Plus. Listen, I love the Dinamica Plus’s pretty touchscreen, but the Dinamica’s LCD screen makes it super easy to use the machine. It might look a bit old-fashioned and cheap, but all the buttons needed are right there with an easy-to-read display.

Both machines boast an impressive array of beverage options, but they differ in some options. And in terms of programming, they are exactly the same, with four coffee temperatures and five strength settings, so you can create a drink that aligns precisely with your personal taste.

Other Features

Winner: Delonghi Dinamica Plus

User Profile

The Dinamica Plus features three user profiles, which can be renamed, and one guest profile, while the Dinamica doesn’t have any profiles. A total of four profiles is not much, but half a loaf is better than none, don’t you think? This is especially useful if you and a few other people like the same drink but each prefer it brewed just a bit differently.

The Dinamica doesn’t have any profiles, but a memo function makes up for this somewhat. It allows you to save your personalized drinks, so you can recreate your favorite personalized beverages easily and quickly at the touch of a button.

App Connectivity

The Dinamica Plus can pair with your smartphone or tablet app via the Coffee Link app, while the Dinamica lacks this ability. The app’s main benefit is that it allows you to personalize your drink settings or start a brewing cycle remotely, whether you’re still cozy in bed or busy at your desk. The app also offers valuable tips and tricks for creating amazing coffee drinks and provides detailed guidance for maintaining your machine – all in the palm of your hand.

Delonghi Dinamica Plus Vs Dinamica: Similarities

Built-in Grinder

Both versions have a stainless steel conical burr grinder with up to 13 different grind settings, which is quite plenty for super-automatic machines. To dial in the right grind size for your brew, simply twist a dial located inside the bean hopper, and remember to only adjust the grind settings while the grinder is actively running. You should also avoid using oily coffee beans since oily buildup could potentially lead to malfunctions or damage, particularly in the brew group.

Both have a bypass doser located in the bean hopper. It allows you to use pre-ground coffee instead of whole beans, which is particularly useful when you want to make a quick cup without going through the process of grinding beans or if you want to enjoy a different type of coffee. If someone prefers or needs decaffeinated coffee, especially in the evening, the bypass doser also makes it easy to switch to decaf without having to empty and replace the beans in the hopper.

Milk Frothing System

These bean-to-cup machines use the same milk system called LatteCrema. Combined with their almost identical coffee brewing systems, the quality and taste of milk-based drinks they produce should be very similar.

The Dinamica Plus’s LatteCrema system

You can’t adjust the temperature of the milk, but you can change the texture by twisting a dial on top of the integrated milk jug. I loved how this jug was clipped neatly in front of the machine since it didn’t take up additional space and I didn’t have to deal with any cumbersome tubes. Incidentally, it can be easily disassembled for cleaning or storage in the fridge at the end of the day.

The LatteCrema automatic system works well and excels in preparing milk-based coffee drinks like cappuccinos and latte macchiatos. Still, it can’t create the microfoam essential for a flat white or latte art – If these are your preferences, consider the Dinamica variant with a steam wand.

Design & Convenience

Spout Type & Cup Clearance

Cup Clearance3.5-5.5 inches3.5-5.5 inches

Both machines feature a height-adjustable dual spout that glides smoothly up and down. It should move all the way down if you’re making espresso to minimize splashes and preserve the aromatic crema on top of your espresso. It also raises high enough to fit large travel mugs, and you can remove the drip tray for extra space when using taller insulated mugs.

Water Reservoir & Bean Hopper

Delonghi Dinamica PlusDelonghi Dinamica
Water Reservoir1.8 liter1.8 liter
Bean Hopper0.37 liter0.37 liter

They share a front-loading water reservoir, which can easily be removed for refilling or cleaning. They both ship with a water filter, helping improve the quality of the water used for brewing coffee by reducing impurities and enhancing the flavor of the coffee. It also means the coffee machine is less prone to scaling, and you have to descale the machine less often.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Daily cleaning is required for parts like the drip tray and coffee grounds container, the milk jug should be cleaned immediately after use, and the removable brew group needs a weekly cleaning routine. Nothing is supposed to go in the dishwasher, but I think you can still put the drip tray,  milk jug, and dregs box in there. Of course, you have to rinse the brew group manually and ensure that it’s fully dried before reinserting it.

If these machines need descaling, they will directly alert you. Descaling is not a daily task – it typically needs to be done every 2-3 months, or even longer, depending on your usage frequency and whether you use a water filter.

Speaking of cleaning the LatteCrema system after each use,  turn the knob to the “Clean” position to run hot water through the system’s pipes to clean them. Just remember to set your cup aside beforehand, or you might end up with an unintended mix of hot water and espresso in your cup.
