The verdict on the Jura E8 vs S8 is that both are great espresso machines for the mid-range budget buyer. However, don’t let the stylish design of both espresso makers fool you.
You can want to spend your money on a good, feature-rich espresso maker, go for the Jura E8. I’ve found that it has better features to replicate the barista experience. It features an Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma system that the S8 doesn’t.
But the Jura S8 features a quieter coffee grinder, as it has an improved version of the Aroma coffee grinder, that is not the case with E8. But the E8’s grinder works precisely and efficiently.
There is a slight difference between both espresso makers. Read below to find out what those distinctions are and what are you willing to buy based on their price tag.

Jura E8 vs S8: Differences
It’s a close call between the Jura E8 vs S8 with 3 – 2 as the final score. Both are fine choices, however, but the E8 has automatic milk rinse and a pre-infusion feature. The S8 comes with a touchscreen display and a quieter coffee grinder.
1. Espresso Flavor
The Winner: It’s A Tie!

Intelligent Pre-Heating
Jura has its set standard that keeps the brewing unit hot and ready for brewing at a moment’s notice. And the name for this unique technology is the Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System.
To allow the freshly-ground coffee to extract a full-bodied espresso flavor, the Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma system lets the ground seep and immerse in the hot water for a little longer. It also matches the perfect amount of water needed for espresso, without making the espresso too watery or over-saturated.
Now, the Jura E8 features this much-needed brewing technology. The Jura S8, on the other hand, doesn’t. Meanwhile, both machines come with Thermoblock for quick and efficient heating.
Temperature
Speaking of temperature, it must also be mentioned that the Jura E8 has an extra level of temperature settings than the Jura S8. Now both machines come with dual temperature settings – for brewing and for hot water For hot water, both machines offer 3 temperature presets. But for brewing, the Jura E8 allows you to customize it up to 3 levels, the S8 only 2 levels.
Coffee Grinder
The Jura S8’s coffee grinder is a multi-level coffee grinder while the Jura E8’s isn’t. In fact, I found that the Jura E8’s basic Aroma grinder is noisier even though both machines have a steel conical burr blade design.
There are more benefits of the S8 from having the Aroma G3 grinder. It is clearly the improved and honed version of the E8 which has the Aroma grinder. The Aroma G3 runs very fast and yields consistent results without much residue.
So for a newer and smoother grinding performance, the S8 is a better competitor.
2. Dose Control
The Winner: Jura E8

Coffee Specialties
Though the difference between both espresso makers is not very significant, the Jura E8 does include more coffee drinks than S8. Where Jura E8 lets its user drink 17 different varieties of coffee, the S8 does only 15.
The drinks that the S8 does not offer and the E8 does is Espresso Doppio and Special Coffee. Espresso Doppio doubles the grind and brewing process for two espressos at one time. This results in a way stronger espresso with a bold aroma in every cup.
Special Coffee refers to a longer extraction of espresso which brews up to 6.5 ounces of coffee in a single brewing cycle.
The S8’s longest coffee drink setting goes up to 5 ounces per serving. So the Jura E8 is 1.5 ounces longer than the S8.
The rest of the drinks include Ristretto, espresso, macchiato, flat white, cappuccino, latte macchiato, long-pressure coffee, and portions of milk and milk foam, hot water. All these drinks are available on both machines. But then again, the S8 offers Latte café drink which the E8 doesn’t.
3. Cleaning & Maintenance
The Winner: Jura E8

Automatic Milk Rinse
The Jura E8 is a premium choice in that it features one-touch cleaning features for brewing and milk. The S8 has integrated cleaning cycles only for brewing, not the milk system. So this does mean you will need to rinse the milk system after every use in the S8.
The Jura E8 automatically rinses the milk system after you use it. A thorough cleaning of the milk tubes and dispenser is necessary. So the automatic milk rinse is of BIG HELP when you want to make sure that the taste of milk does not change due to a dirty pipe or spout.
This saves plenty of your time and prolongs the shelf life of the machine itself. You end up saving more time and effort in cleaning a liquid such as milk that can get sticky and “funky” very quickly when left on a stainless steel/plastic surface. And we all know that when milk hardens on a surface, it’s even more difficult to clean.
4. Utilities
The Winner: Jura S8

Control Panel
A great thing about the Jura S8 is that it uses a 4.3-inch touchscreen color display. So no buttons and no rotary switch. The display of the Jura E8 is smaller and it isn’t a touchscreen. It uses a 2.8-inch TFT color display with buttons and a rotary dial interface.
The fancy appearance of the Jura S8 as a result of its touchscreen display is very tempting. Selecting your coffee drink, replicating your previous customized drink, and setting the programmable hot water temperature is simpler than ever.
And since the Jura S8 also features a One-Touch function (just like the E8), using it on the touchscreen feels a lot more modern and sleek than the buttons.
Jura E8 vs S8: Similarities
1. Capacity
Both machines feature a 64-ounce water tank and 280g bean hopper. Even the amount of used coffee grounds they can store after brewing is 16 pucks. According to stats, this is a convenient and spacious capacity for home espresso machines. And it’s compatible with the espresso maker’s 1-2 cups brewing capacity which allows you to brew two espressos, double the volume and strength, in a single brewing cycle.
2. Brewing Technology
So the Pulse Extraction Process and Thermoblock Heating of the Jura E8 and S8 are the same. This guarantees a smooth, aromatic, and balanced extraction of coffee, no matter the beans you use. The Thermoblock also ensures consistent heating temperatures, regardless of how many cups you brew in a single day. This applies to maintaining the high optimal temperature for both coffee and milk.
3. Dose Control
The grind size for an espresso maker can be anywhere between 5 to 30 grams. And for home espresso machines, it is slightly lower, maybe up to 21g for espresso.
The dosage from the Jura E8 vs S8 is 5 to 16g. This is perfect for a smooth and balanced espresso flavor and aroma.
For a single shot, the average range is 6 to 8 grams. And for a double shot, it is anywhere up to 16 grams. So you have nothing to worry about with regards to the extraction flavor, texture, and aroma of espresso.
4. Programmability
On the Jura E8 and S8 you can adjust the coffee strength, brewing temperature, volume, hot water temperature, and milk foam. It’s quick and both machines come with pre-set variables so you don’t need to remember what you adjusted per cup.
This makes using an espresso machine home the simplest and quickest endeavour. It’s not as complicated to use as a semi-automatic. So even if you know absolutely nothing about espresso machines, you can still make a lip-smacking macchiato or espresso-based on your personal taste out of both machines.
5. Power-Saving Features
Jura standards as far as saving energy goes are impressive! And the Jura E8 and S8 are both equal recipients of that amazing benefit. So both machines come with auto shut-off, low power mode, and standby mode.
6. Smart App Connect (J.O.E. Compatibility)
Jura has its own Smart Connect app that lets you access all the coffee features via your smartphone. Both the Jura E8 and S8 are compatible with this modern technology. You can also download the Jura app on your tablet and access all the features on the control panel from that.
7. Fine Foam FrotherG2
The Fine Foam FrotherG2 is an updated version of the Fine Foam frother that many Jura machines have. But the G2 is better in that it fixes some of the problems that the standard Fine Foam frother was facing.
Such as milk foam texture adjustability between multiple coffee espresso drinks such as latte macchiato, cappuccino, and flat white. You can also program the milk foam or just select the option for plain hot milk.
Though it’s not a steam wand like an authentic espresso machine has but it delivers precisely barista-quality milk for espresso automatically.

I am a passionate coffee drinker. Since I left my job as a barista a few years back in 2012, I’ve been sharing my expertise on coffee and buying the best coffee equipment online. That’s how Wild Boar Coffee came to life.
I write about everything coffee-related under the sun. Where to buy the freshest coffee beans from? How to test coffee beans based on texture, aroma, and acidity?
I know all this from scratch – all thanks to my years and years of experience as a barista. So I’ve gotten real up-close-and-personal with coffee beans and different brewing techniques.
