Both the Jura E6 vs Breville Barista Touch have features that make them great choices for any home kitchen. However, the Breville Barista Touch easily edges out the Jura E6 as the Breville option comes with more sophisticated features such as customized drink profiles, a better milk system, and better coffee overall.

After testing out both machines, I created this comprehensive comparison where we check out the key features of the espresso machines and how they stack up against each other. If you’re looking for a seamless combination of convenience and control, the Barista Touch is the best pick as it allows you to customize your drink profiles and generally makes better flavored coffee.

The Jura E6, on the other hand, offers great bean-to-cup coffee at the press of a button. While it’s a relatively simple machine, it still comes with great features such as CLEARYL water filters that provide filtered water for the best possible flavor and an intuitive user interface that makes it easy to brew high-quality espresso shots!

Jura E6 vs Breville Barista Touch: The Differences

Both of these options make for great at-home espresso machines. However, after analyzing all their key differences, I found that the Breville Barista Touch beats out the Jura E6 5-2. This is simply because the Barista Touch contains more robust features that allow you to take control over the flavor of your coffee and create specialty coffee at the touch of a button. So, let’s take a deep dive into the differences of these two machines so you can see why I chose the Breville Barista Touch.

1. Flavor

The Winner: Breville Barista Touch

Breville Barista Touch Flavor
Breville Barista Touch Flavor

After taking into account other customer opinions and trying out the machines myself, it was easy to see why the Barista Touch offers richer and deeper coffee flavors.

The Grinder

Both of these machines feature conical burr grinders, but the Jura E6 uses the special Aroma G3 grinder which is supposed to allow you to get the precise grind you want with perfectly engineered cutting angles. However, the reason the Barista Touch has the advantage is because the grinder features stepless adjustments through a convenient dial on the side of the machine. This allows you to dial in the grind to whatever consistency you want, which gives you much more control compared to the E6’s 8-step settings.

After you grind your coffee on the Barista Touch, you still have to do the tamping yourself, which you can do with the tamper that comes with the machine. On the Jura E6, tamping is automatic, so there’s less work to do when brewing coffee.

Heating System

The next feature to take into account when comparing the coffee flavor is the heating system. The Barista Touch uses a ThermoJet system, while the E6 uses the Thermoblock. Both of these heating systems can heat water up fast and you can heat up water in just a couple of seconds with either of the machines. The main complaint that people have with Thermoblock and ThermoJet systems is that the water temperature is inconsistent compared with a boiler. However, these quick heating systems allow you to change the water temperature from espresso to steam in a matter of seconds, which is a great advantage for people on the go.

The reason that the Barista Touch has the better heating system, however, is because of the PID or digital temperature control. With a PID system, you don’t have to worry about inconsistent temperatures as much as it can provide much better temperature stability.

Pre-Infusion, Water Filter, and Extraction Process

The Barista Touch features pre-infusion, which involves gently soaking the ground coffee in the portafilter before applying the full pressure needed for an espresso shot. Pre-infusion is automatic with the Barista Touch, and it works by gradually increasing the pressure so that the coffee can absorb the water evenly, creating a more consistent flavor. The Barista Touch also features a ClaroSwiss water filter that allows for pure and filtered water, which also increases the flavor.

The E6 has a P.E.P. (Pulse Extraction Process) and Intelligent Water System to also produce a full-bodied flavor. The P.E.P. system also allows for a well-balanced and even flavor. However, after comparing the two machines, I found that the Barista Touch’s brewing capabilities make for much better coffee overall compared to the E6.

Because of its more sophisticated brewing features like pre-infusion, a better heating system, and PID temperature control, the Barista Touch consistently brews better coffee drinks than the E6.

2. Milk System

The Winner: Breville Barista Touch

Breville Barista Touch Milk System
Breville Barista Touch Milk System

Both of these machines feature relatively simple milk systems, which is why it allows you to easily create steamed milk for a variety of coffee drinks. The Breville Barista Touch has a programmable automatic steam wand. Before steaming the milk, you can set the precise temperature and texture you want on your milk. Then, you place the milk under the steam wand, and the machine automatically does the work for you. The Barista Touch has a small sensor underneath the area where you place your milk jug which measures the temperature of your milk for more precise texturing.

With the E6, steaming milk is very easy. All you have to do is select the froth level of your milk, place the milk jug under the steamer, and the machine will froth your milk to your liking. And while you can choose the texture of the milk, the HP1 milk system doesn’t allow you to customize the temperature, which can be very limiting, especially for people who are very particular about their milk and coffee drinks.

Another reason I chose the Barista Touch over the Jura E6 when it comes to the milk system is that the steamer has an automatic purge function. This releases steam and pressure from the machine and keeps milk deposits from staying in the steamer and clogging it over time.

3. Type of Drinks

The Winner: Tie

Jura E6 Type of Drinks
Jura E6 Type of Drinks

One of the ways that the Jura E6 held up against the Barista Touch is with the type of drinks available. Both of the machines offer one-touch drinks, so you can simply press a button and the machine does most of the work for you. However, while the Barista Touch offers 5 automatic presets when you get the machine, the Jura E6 offers 7, which gives you a much more versatile menu of the bat.

With that said, the quality of the drinks with the Barista Touch is much better, but since you can customize the strength, temperature, and dosage of your drinks on both machines, you can always tweak the Jura E6 to your liking.

Both of the machines allow you to tweak different areas of the drink, allowing for some customizability. However, it can be harder to adjust the settings on the E6 as you have to go to “Expert Mode” to make adjustments.

You can make either an espresso, Americano, cappuccino, latte, or flat white with the Barista Touch which will be just as good as the ones you can get at a cafe. The E6 offers a wider choice of espresso drinks, long coffees, and milk drinks for cappuccinos and lattes as well, just not as good as the Barista Touch. So, if you prefer quality over quantity, the Barista Touch is your best bet, but if you prefer having a lot of options to choose from, we recommend the E6.

4. Other Utilities

The Winner: Barista Touch

Breville Barista Touch Other Ultilities
Breville Barista Touch Other Ultilities

When comparing the extra utilities of both machines, I found that it was a pretty close match up. Both of the machines feature colored displays that show you the drinks available. However, the Barista Touch has a touchscreen that makes it easier to select and customize the different drinks. On top of that, the Barista Touch comes with a simple warmer that can keep your cups warm before you put coffee in them. However, it has to be said that some customers have complained that the cup warmer could be much better, which is very important to note.

However, when it comes to utilities, the main reason the Barista Touch is the better option is the customized drink profiles. On the Barista Touch, you can use the touchscreen to easily create custom specialty coffee drinks specifically to your liking. You can control the dosage, and other factors of the coffee and tweak it just to your liking. And after setting up the profile you can even name it as you please. The Barista Touch allows you to set up 8 custom profiles, each with unique names and settings while the Jura E6 doesn’t offer this type of customization, which makes it lag behind the Barista Touch.

5. Cleaning & Maintenance

The Winner: Tie

Breville Barista Touch Maintenance
Breville Barista Touch Maintenance

When it comes to cleaning and maintaining both machines, I found that they are tied. The Jura E6 has a fully-automated cleaning cycle, so you just have to turn on the cleaning cycle and the machine will do the work for you. On top of that, if your machine is due for a cleaning, the Jura E6 even notifies you! This makes it easier for you to keep the machine in tip-top shape, brewing your favorite coffee for many years to come.

Since the Barista Touch has an auto-purge function for the steam wand, it’s very easy to keep the milk system clean and functional. The Barista Touch has an automatic cleaning cycle that does most of the work for you, which makes it as convenient as the E6 when it comes to cleaning. However, keep in mind that the portafilter, drip tray, and shower screen all have to be wiped down manually after every use.

For both of the automatic cleaning cycles for the E6 and Barista Touch, you need to put in cleaning capsules that are included with the machines. Additionally, you need to make sure to change the water filters of each machine at least every two months with regular use to ensure that your water remains clean and properly filtered. Over time, minerals can build up in the filters, which is why they need changing every couple of months.

Breville Barista Touch vs Jura E6: Similarities

Both of these machines share some similarities. For one, they offer bean-to-cup coffee at the press of a button. However, the Barista Touch requires manual tamping and for you to attach the portafilter to brew the coffee. Both of the machines only accept whole bean coffee, but since they are both equipped with high-quality grinders, that doesn’t matter as much since it will take the same amount of time for the machine to grind and brew your coffee as it takes with regular coffee pods.
