I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

Jura E6 vs Philips 3200, which espresso machine brews better drinks? After many tests and consideration, my final winner is Philips 3200.

Philips 3200 is much more affordable than Jura E6, and it boasts of very consistent and tasty espresso extraction. I like the compact design and the steam wand as a milk system since I have better control over the milk texture. The operating system and the control are straightforward as well. I highly recommend the model for its value and price.

The runner-up Jura E6 is a highly formidable opponent since its espresso is just as aromatic and robust. It’s able to froth creamy or dry milk foam for different recipes as well. However, for its “impressive” price tag and similar functionality to the Philips one, this device doesn’t seem as good of a deal to me.

Jura E6 vs Philips 3200: Differences

Philips 3200 wins 3 to 2 agaisnt Jura E6. Both devices have good performance when it comes to espresso flavor and milk frothing. The grinders also are stable. I will tell you how they really work below.

Coffee flavor: Philips 3200

+Grinder

Both the Philips 3200 and Jura E6 are equipped with a ceramic burr grinder, one of the best types that we can get from espresso machines. Despite sharing more or less the same type of grinder, the performance of each model has a twist to it.

For Philips 3200, the grinder has 12 different settings to deliver diverse ground results. From the used pucks that I get, the coffee ground is very even and smooth. I usually set the grinder at 6 when I want a mellower cup of espresso and 8 or 9 for a stronger drink. Setting the grinder higher won’t be beneficial since the ground will be too fine.

However, I have experienced some noisy grinding sessions. The machine doesn’t make an annoying screeching noise like many other devices, but it’s not the quietest of the bunch either.

As for Jura E6, the performance is very consistent, and I’m satisfied with the final coffee ground. But, this machine has 6 settings for its grinder only. So it offers fewer options for the coffee ground texture, thus less control over the flavor. But, if you want a simpler model, this machine is a good pick.

+Dosing + tamping

Philips 3200 is super-automatic, so it handles the dosing and tamping steps without requiring manual intervention. With this model, I enjoy a straightforward bean-to-cup experience.

On the contrary, Jura E6, a fully-automatic machine, is a bit tricky since it needs manual adjustment from users whenever the brewing session involves a milk-based beverage.

Jura E6 has a dial knob for milk dispensing. When it’s on, the machine will froth and pour milk. For it to dispense espresso, I have to turn the knob off. As a result, users have to pay more attention to the brewing process and intervene between milk-espresso or espresso-milk steps.

+Heating system

Philips 3200 and Jura E6 share the same Thermoblock heating system that heats the water quickly. In terms of heat-up time, I think both do a great job, given that I don’t have to wait more than 10 minutes for a hot cup of coffee or espresso.

However, Philips 3200 has a better temperature control between consecutive brewing sessions. Thus, I can make a large amount of espresso or coffee at perfect drinking temperature before the water tank runs out.

From what I have experienced, these models are made for drinking right away. The usual espresso temperature that I get from Jura E6 varies around 170F, which is quite hot and can be enjoyed leisurely.

And from Philips 3200, I get coffees or espressos around 160F. For such an affordable machine as 3200, I think the temperature is very decent.

Milk System: Tie

I’m delighted with the milk system of both Philips 3200 and Jura E6. Even though Jura E6 is much more expensive, its performance on milk frothing is quite similar to Philips. Both can make dry microfoam for cappuccinos, and making steamed milk is not even a challenge.

The difference is that Philips 3200 is equipped with a steam wand while Jura E6 has an internal milk system that connects to an external milk container through a tube. We have more manual control over the final result with a steam wand. With the carafe, the system automatically froths milk, and we can’t change much during the process.

Which do you seek from a milk system? Automation or control? Answering these questions will help you decide the right product line for your needs.

Utilities: Jura E6

Jura E6: Utilities
Jura E6: Utilities

Jura E6 wins thanks to its feature of recognizing Cleryl water filter automatically. Many users don’t know that they have to set up the filters so that their espresso machines know that they are working with one and put it to work. This convenient feature allows users to pluck the filter in place and avoid the extra steps.

Cleaning & Maintain: Tie

With Jura E6, we put a cleaning tablet in the receptor and start the deep cleaning cycle. The machine should do all the work. However, since the brew group isn’r removable, the tablets and cleaning solutions are the only way to clean the device. If you aren’t willing to spend extra money on these things, cleaning Jura E6 won’t be as convenient as it should.

As for Philips 3200, we can use cleaning tablets with this as well. By dropping one in the pregound slot, then press the coffee icon, then aroma strength button for 3 seconds, the machine starts the deep cleaning process. This is less convenient in comparison to Jura E6.

However, the brew group is removable so we can clean it more thoroughly.

Design & Material: Philips 3200

Philips 3200: Design & Material

I prefer Philips 3200 since it has the same water tank capacity (over 60oz), but it is much more compact than Jura E6. The small footprint should fit many small corners without any problem.

Material-wise, bothmodels combines stainless steel with plastic. But, Jura E6 has more stainless steel parts, giving a studier feel. But, 3200 is more lightweight. Also, for its highly affordable price, I think the fact that the machine is made almost entirely of plastic is understandable. It’s an excellent value-for-price pick.

Jura E6 vs Philips 3200: Similarities

Philips 3200 and Jura E6 share some common features that I find very convenient. Check them out below.

Thermoblock heating system

Philips 3200 and Jura E6 are equipped with a Thermoblock heating system designed to heat water quickly. Typically, it takes around 3 minutes only for the system to prime itself. But I recommend a 15-minute wait time for the optimum brewing temperature.

Eco mode

Both models have an Eco mode that helps save energy after a while in an inactivity state. As for Jura E6, it even has an auto shut-off mode that helps turn off the machine automatically. I suggest picking a modelwith an  auto shut-off feature, simply because you save energy and money with it.
