I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

Both the Jura E6 vs E8 are worth the price you pay for drinking cups after cups of espresso at home. It’s much better than what you’d normally pay for in a coffee shop. So even if the Jura E8 is $1000 more expensive than the E6, it pays for itself in the long run.

So why is the E8 better? Even though the Jura E6 has the same P.E.P. brewing technology, programmable coffee strength and volume, and Thermoblock heating system, the E8 improves upon these features a bit more for the serious espresso lover.

And that is why it wins because it enhances the brewing ability and streamlines the milk texturing functionality without losing power and taking longer than the E6.

Jura E6 vs E8: Differences

The Jura E8 wins 4 – 0 against the E6 because it’s more feature-rich both in its brewing interface (coffee menu) and milk texturing features.

1. Espresso Flavor

The Winner: Jura E8

Coffee Drinks

Determining the quality of an espresso machine, especially ones like the Jura E6 vs E8 is not easy because they have so many features in common and that they’re both Jura machines.

Having said that, between the Jura E6 and E8, the difference lies in not the way they extract coffee – since they both have Pulse Extraction Process – but in the number of coffees they make.

The E6 features 6 coffee drinks or “specialties” including espresso, cappuccino, and coffee. You can brew a single serving or double at the press of a button.

The E8, however, features 16 coffee drinks which are a lot more and a lot better. You can pick from ristretto, espresso, macchiato, coffee, doppio, special coffee, flat white, cappuccino, and latte macchiato. The E8 also offers 1-2 shots of espresso in a single brewing cycle.

Coffee Strength

While both also features adjustable coffee strength levels, the E8 offers 2 more levels than the E6 for the espresso maker to make any espresso drink stronger and richer. The E6 has 8 levels of coffee strength control and the E8 features 10 levels.

Temperature

Both espresso makers come with Thermoblock heating system and adjustable temperature control. But the E8 which is more upgraded than the E6 features 3 adjustable levels while the E6 features only 2.

While both produce piping hot coffee and milk in a short time, and the optimal heating level is also always consistent, the E8 has more intricate programmability than the E6 for someone who prefers more control.

2. Dose Control

The Winner: Jura E8

Jura E8 Dose Control

The quantity of coffee that the Jura E8 produces, thanks to its nuanced coffee specialties, is more than what the E6 is designed to produce. With the option of making Special Coffee which is long-pressure brewed coffee, you can drink up to 6.5 to 8 ounces of coffee at a time.

With the E6, the maximum you can make, at a time, is 5 ounces. This is the basic Coffee option that you select on the E6.

The same drink also exists on the E8 but it goes that extra mile which is why Jura machines are so great for espresso drinkers.

Pre-Ground Coffee

Speaking of dose control, the E8 features a separate slot for pre-ground coffee. This does limit what the Jura E6 can do with regards to how you make espresso at home. The programmable coffee volume, coffee drinks, coffee strength, all these features just as well apply to adding coffee beans in the bean hopper as to when you use pre-ground coffee.

3. Milk System

The Winner: Jura E8

Jura E8 Milk System

The Jura E6 features a Fine Foam Frother which is under the same design quality as the Jura E8. But the E8’s Fine Foam Frother is an upgraded model with ‘G2’.

Even the location of the milk spout, on both machines, is altered. So the E6 has the milk spout right next to the coffee spout. Making it easier for you to place the cup right underneath the coffee spout and slide it an inch to the right for the milk.

But the milk spout that the E8 offers has its own designated position where most steam wands are placed in a standard espresso machine.

In fact, the G2 technology of the milk frother allows you to manually texture the milk for more control over the density of the foam and its creamy texture. The frother wand has a dial positioned design that you can adjust to texture the milk easily.

Considering how many coffees, all milk-based drinks, that the E8 offers to have such intricate control over the milk texture is a useful feature.

4. Utilities

The Winner: Jura E8

Smart Connect App

Isn’t it better when you can control things using just your phone? If you buy the Jura E8, you can link up the machine with your phone. This allows you to navigate all the coffee menu, the rinsing programs, and the power mode of the machine.

If you have an espresso cup ready under the spout, you can literally brew a cup without getting out of the room, just by pressing the espresso icon, setting up your temperature and strength, and adjusting the volume.

The Jura E6 does not support such a wireless connection. You might see a wi-fi icon on the interface but it does not support Smart Connect connectivity.

Jura E6 vs E8: Similarities

Now, for the features that we all know and love about the Jura E6 and E8.

1. Pulse Extraction Process

The first is the Pulse Extraction Process which ensures a smooth and balanced extraction of coffee. In layman’s terms, if you want your coffee to taste perfect, not weak or over-saturated or bitter, this feature takes care of that for you.

No matter what coffee beans you use, it will extract coffee perfectly every time. Maintaining a good blend of taste and aroma and texture, for all coffee and espresso drinks that both machines offer.

2. Thermoblock Heating

Next, is the Thermoblock heating element which, I think, is perfect for home espresso makers. It’s compact which doesn’t put too much pressure on the construction. This also makes both machines compact and portable to use. And Thermoblock doesn’t lose heat between coffee extraction and milk frothing. You just have to wait for a short while before brewing your second cup but even that, the heating up is fast and consistent.

3. Bar Pump Pressure

Both machines feature a 15 bar pump pressure. This is the professional standard for home espresso makers. It’s fast and is able to maintain high-intensity levels, especially when brewing espresso at a stronger strength setting. And coffee lovers will appreciate that even for light roast coffee beans, the machine won’t make the espresso too watery so as to ruin the rich but mild flavor of the coffee.

4. Cleaning & Maintenance

Then you have the low-energy mode, water filtration, and integrated cleaning programs that are available on the Jura E6 and E8. The TFT color display and buttons interface (on both machines) ensures quick and accessible navigation of everything the machine does.
