Espresso makers are incredibly popular again – did you know? And with machines like the Jura E8 vs J6 why shouldn’t they be? Jura machines offer the easiest way to get a rich, aromatic cup of espresso, even you don’t really the first thing about making espresso from scratch.
And between the Jura E8 vs J6, you can become a serious coffee enthusiast at the touch of a button. But which one?
The Jura E8 promises more features than the J6. It ranks better in flavor, overall rating, ease of use, and durability. And you don’t even have to pay as much as J6 for it – despite it (Jura E8) being a better performer than the J6.
So why is the J6 more expensive? Well, it has the Aroma G3 grinder and the horizontal and vertical spout adjustment. For the rest of it, the E8 has the same, in fact better, features as the J6.

Jura E8 vs J6: Differences
The Jura E8 wins (2 – 1) against Jura J6 because it does have everything that’ll improve the way you drink espresso at home. You have more coffee drinks to choose from and intricate programmability.
1. Espresso Taste
The Winner: Jura J6
Coffee Grinder
The Jura J6 has a steel conical burr grinder – so does the Jura E8. But the J6 is equipped with an upgrade coffee grinder construction, thanks to its Aroma G3 model. The E8 is only Aroma which means it is one level lower than J6.
This, in terms of both design and performance, makes a significant difference. By design, it means the Aroma G3 heats up less, even after intense cup-after-cup use. It also means that the blades are widely spaced to cover more ground inside the grinder. This results in less ground wastage and more even and fine extraction.
The Aroma grinder, on the other hand, is fast and consistent, no doubt about it. But it does heat up slightly when you brew back to back.
The stainless steel blades have more give and durability as far as the J6 is concerned.
2. Dose Control
The Winner: Jura E8
The Jura E8 has more programmability than the J6. The number of coffee strength settings on the Jura E8 is up to 10 levels. On the J6, it is not clearly specified how many levels of adjustments you have to play around with.
The same logic applies to the adjustable temperature settings and the grind settings. The Jura E8 allows 16 different coffee drinks with programmable coffee strength, volume, temperature and hot water temperature. Plus it has a manual transition feature that lets you expertly control the milk texture of the coffee as well.
The Jura J6 allows only 7 coffee drinks.
3. Milk System
The Winner: Jura E8
The battle is between the Fine Foam G2 frother and the basic Fine Foam frother. The Fine Foam G2 comes with more secure fittings with an adjustable knob that allows manual transition.
You can decide which milk texture you want. For latte macchiato, cappuccino, plain milk foam, or just hot milk. The frother can produce piping hot and smooth milk for coffee, hot chocolate, and milk froth to put on top of the espresso.
While the Fine Foam frother of the J6 delivers good hot milk and milk foam, it does require faster replacement (less than 2 months) if you use the frother every day.
Jura E8 vs J6: Similarities
The Jura E8 and J6 have more things in common than they don’t. These include…
1. Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P.) + Thermoblock
This refers to the quality of espresso that both espresso makers offer. I should also add another similarity here which is that both machines have a 15 bar pump for smooth and consistent espresso extraction.
The PEP allows a balanced and full-bodied flavor of espresso, no matter what coffee beans you use. And the Thermoblock heating system reduces energy consumption while also maintaining a consistently high brewing temperature for coffee and milk.
Since we’re speaking about coffee and coffee beans, it’s important to mention that both espresso makers come with a by-pass doser for pre-ground coffee. Generally, decaf coffee drinkers appreciate this additional feature more than normal espresso drinkers.
2. Control Panel
Both machines have a TFT display with a rotary switch and push-buttons. This ensures a classic and slightly modern way of making your espresso drinks at home.
It also helps when you can pick from a variety of coffee drinks such as latte macchiato, cappuccino, flat white, espresso, coffee, etc.
All these are interesting choices that you’re not going to get from a standard coffee maker. And each coffee drink is customizable by strength, volume, and temperature.
Both machines also support 2-cup brewing in a single cycle. And they are compatible with the Smart Connect app from Jura that allows you to access all the coffee functions at the tap of your (phone)screen.
3. Cleaning & Maintenance
Both machines feature quick and effortless cleaning cycles. At the press of a single button, both machines can be set up for low-energy mode, auto shut-off, and rinsing.
The Jura E8 comes with a Claris water filter and the J6 with the CLEARYL water filter. Both do an outstanding job of maintaining a clean, clog-free environment for espresso extraction and milk frothing.
They also feature a water hardness indicator, on/off switch, and a Calc-clean function that improves and maintains a steady water flow.
