Let me give you the quick answer to “Which is better between Saeco Xelsis vs Jura E8?”. Jura E8 is the real champion.

Thanks to its super-automatic design and amazing espresso/ coffee quality, Jura E8 surpasses Saeco Xelsis in many aspects. It offers strong espresso, thick crema, and fluffy milk foam. The operation produces minimum noise as well. You won’t want to miss this model.

As for the runner-up Saeco Xelsis, I really enjoy the smooth and robust espresso flavor, alongside good milk froth quality. But the time that this device takes to start extracting after I hit the brewing button doesn’t leave a good impression. You can find out how these machines work for me below.

Saeco Xelsis vs Jura E8: Differences

Jura E8 wins 3 – 2 against Saeco Xelsis. Both models are solid picks, but Jura E8 has a more stable operation, and its efficiency is hard to miss. From the drinks’ quality to the machine’s operation, I’m satisfied with what it has to offer.

Coffee flavor: Jura E8

+Grinder

Texture-wise, Jura E8 and Saeco Xelsis don’t fail in delivering even coffee grounds. This is a crucial aspect that affects the espresso flavor and quality directly. Luckily, these models do their tasks well.

There is a catch here, though. Xelsis uses a flat burr, while E8 uses a conical burr grinder. In the meantime, they work equally smoothly. But, in the long run, conical burr tends to be more consistent and durable, and it is less prone to jam and leftover ground.

Furthermore, I prefer how the grinder on Jura E8 produces minimum noise while Xelsis is quite “obnoxious” when it grinds beans. If you are by any chance sleep training your newborn, I recommend Jura E8 more.

+Dosing + tamping

I wish Saeco Xelsis took less time to dose, but it sometimes tests my patience. This device takes quite a while to dose, and I have to wait longer compared to the Jura E8. Luckily, the systems run both the dosing and tamping steps automatically, so I don’t have to watch and chime in during the entire extracting process.

Xelsis uses 7 – 10g while E8 uses 5 – 16 g, which means we have more coffee strength variety with the later device.

Flavor-wise, both do a great job at extracting robust and fresh taste. But with E8, it’s possible to customize the volume or coffee strength and get more mellow or stronger drinks. This is an important aspect that you must consider regarding your preference for coffee.

+Heating system

Both Jura E8 and Saeco Xelsis use a single Thermoblock to heat water. Ther performance is somewhat similar since they take around the same amount of time to prime the system and boil water to the ideal brewing temperature.

I usually wait 5-10 minutes since a longer starting up duration ensures a better coffee temperature most of the time, even though it is not necessary since they technically take around 3 minutes only.

The temperature is relatively high, and the pair produces hot espressos and coffees, just as I prefer.

Milk SYstem: Jura E8

After testing both models for the first time, I can already tell that Jura E8 has a more consistent and stable milk system. Basically, Jura E8 and Saeco Xelsis use an external carafe connected to them through a tube. The system froths milk with different textures depending on each recipe or users’ adjustment.

But, Jura E8 delivers a smooth milk foam texture with such ease that it can send me straight to heaven. The quality is top-notch, and the texture is airy and velvety. It’s definitely good enough for cappuccinos, which demand drier foam.

As for Saeco Xelsis, the milk foam quality is relatively nice. It has an airy texture, and we can adjust it in the setting. However, the operation is messy. It splats some short burst of hot water first, then comes the milk foam. And after all the milk comes out, the device will add a few more short shots of water into the cup.

This makes my coffee + foam splatter and leave the drip tray a tad messy. That’s why I’m not a big fan of Xelsis’s milk system, even though it does a wonderful job with milk frothing.

Utilities: Tie

The level of customization that the pair offers is astonishing. Users can adjust the water temperature, the coffee strength, the milk texture, etc., freely and save them for future extractions.

Both have an impressive variety of one-touch beverages that ensure users’ comfort in brewing. Jura E8 has 17 drinks, while Saeco Xelsis has 15. Recipes like cappuccino, latte, espresso, lungo, macchiato, etc., are some basics that the pair shares.

In terms of interface, if you prefer buttons, Jura E8 is the go-to pick. If you prefer a touch screen, Saeco Xelsis has the higher ground.

Cleaning & Maintain: Tie

Having espresso machines’ assistance at cleaning time is bliss, and Jura E8 and Saeco Xelsis share this bliss. Both models are integrated with cleaning programs that range from quick to thorough.

I recommend using the rinse mode daily to ensure that the brew path is constantly clean. And each week, it’s advisable to opt for the deep clean process and use a cleaning solution. Things like grinder or brew group can be removed and cleaned manually to ensure products’ lifespan.

Design & Material: Saeco Xelsis

Since I mainly use espresso machines for review, which doesn’t require a tremendous amount of brewing per day, I prefer smaller devices. Thus, Saeco Xelsis wins in this aspect because it is much more compact compared to Jura E8. It also has a front water tank, which can be removed easily for refilling. That’s why this model’s design is better.

Material-wise, Jura E8 and Saeco Xelsis are made of top quality materials like durable plastic, stainless steel, chrome, and aluminum. Overall, they give a sturdy feel while not being too heavy to carry. That’s attractive!

Saeco Xelsis vs Jura E8: Similarities

I want to highlight 3 similarities between Saeco Xelsis and Jura E8, which I find most important and will affect users’ daily experience.

Automatic shut-off

Both devices come with an auto shut-off function, and it is possible to customize the wait time. Users can pick between options like 9 minutes, 30 minutes, 3 hours, etc. This feature is a big plus if you don’t want to waste energy on an espresso machine intentionally.

Amazing espresso quality

I don’t have anything to complain about with these espresso machines in terms of flavor. They do a phenomenal job at extracting balanced coffee with different flavor notes. But, if you prefer strong coffee and can handle caffeine, Jura E8 is the one that can offer a higher coffee dose.

Ideal for users with some experience

Saeco Xelsis and Jura E8 have vast customization capabilities. Users can adjust the coffee strength, milk texture, water temperature, etc. Needless to say, these adjustments require some learning curves. I believe these products are perfectly made for users with some experience with espresso machines.

But, if you are willing to investigate, being a first-timer won’t be a big problem since the machines themselves are very intuitive.
